Getting under Lausanne's skin

Hi, I've written a book all about Lausanne, but not your usual guide book - this is a series of interviews with all kinds of people who live and work here, from bankers to prostitutes to policemen to illegal immigrants... interviews conducted in their bedrooms, offices, on boats, in churches... wherever I could find them. They talk (in French, be warned!) about their hopes, their fears, their daily lives. The book was my response to moving here from London four years ago, and wanting to know my new home more than superficially. I met some truly great characters with some truly great stories. The book's called RUE CENTRALE and it comes out on 19 December 2012. You'll find it at Payot and other good bookshops in Lausanne, and online at the website of the publisher, Editions L'Age d'Homme. It's fantastic (she said, objectively). I'll be presenting it soon at a special event at the Musée Historique de Lausanne, up by the cathedral, next to Mudac: watch this space for more details. All the very best for Christmas and the New Year, Laura Spinney
