Hello - Moving to Geneva in April/looking for accommodation

Hello everybody!

I'm moving to Geneve in two weeks (probably). I joined glocals to meet new friends and learn new skills. I will be joining the WHO office and am looking for a studio/1BR (sublet?) in the city. Any leads in this regard is welcome! :)

i want to learn French language. Bonjour!

Any advice on salsa socials in the city will be highly appreciated!

Cheers,

Hamsa

Hey Hamsa,

I am looking for exactly the same stuff. Moving to Geneva to work with the WHO as a consultant. Looking for an apartment/sublet from April until June. Also, wants to learn French and ofcourse salsa.

This is so cool. Btw did you find any accommodation? Do you have any suggestions regarding different sites like Glocals to look for all these things? Thanks :)

Best wishes,

Harsh

Hello Harsh! Thanks for your message.

I'm looking for advice on glocals forum. Follwoing on few lassified ads and mainly looking to sublet as it is easier for consultants that way. Have you relocated already?

Hamsa and Harsh, you will find ads for housing in Glocals, but you have the privilege of gaining access to the WHO's electronic bulletin board, where you will find info on accommodation as well as ads which cater to WHO staff.

Hi Hamsa. I always found the WHO HR office very helpful (as well as the staff association). I would go to them (or contact them if you are not in Geneva yet) and ask them if you can get your email account set up now (explain why), and also ask them for materials and information on housing.

Another useful site is the CERN "marketplace." It is open to anyone working in international organizations. You should be able to set up an account easily.

https://marketplace.web.cern.ch/

Good luck.

Hi JR M,

Thanks for sharing this information. Hamsa is right that we cannot have access to the bulletin. Until then, using Glocals which seems like a good option too.

Hi Karen,

This sounds like we all have quite some overlapping interests including the WHO job. We shall meet once we are there. Good luck with the house hunting.

Hey HL, I think it is better to negotiate with landlords through personal messages!

And Ive been told NOT to wire money before seeing the place and the papers. So please be careful.

The best and most efficient way to find housing on glocals is to browse the ads under “Housing offered” in the Classifieds and, of course, to insert your own message – with details of who you are, how long you plan to stay, and your budget for rent – under “Housing wanted”.

Why opt for a general inquiry when you have a tailored facility at your fingertips?

Best wishes, R.
