Hello All! Moving to Geneva in 2 weeks, just a few questions...
Hey fellow peoples!

I'm rwandese-american, moving to Geneva for an MA at IHEID in about two weeks, I have been living in West Africa (Mauritania) and working for the UN for a few years, so I am a bit out of the loop in terms of coping with the first-world!

Mainly, I wanted to ask about a short-term (15 days), inexpensive place to stay from the 1-15th of September, as I 've found an apartment but it's only available starting the 15th, and I have a load of administrative crap to sort out in the meantime (permis de sejour, inscription at the uni, etc)....

Other questions I wanted to throw out include what the timeframe is for me to get health insurance (right away, or within a month or two is OK?), how difficult it is for someone with an American passport to open a (retail-just checking) bank account, what the weather is like in September, and what are the good resources I could check on-line to get a feel for the public transportation system...

So, hello Glocals and hello Geneva!
