Hello Outdoorsy (Zurich) folk ....

This will be my first full winter in Switzerland (arrived end of Jan 2012). I love the outdoors but have little confidence in making use of it over the winter months. My husband and I have a (downhill) ski week booked at the end of Feb 2013 but that is a long time away yet! I would really value some tips and tricks from glocals about how and where to start with other forms of winter activities.

I have spent the last 20 years in a climate of searingly hot summers - so I need, and want, to adapt so as not to spend half the year here indoors !

Thanks and cheers, Annette

Hello Annette,

Since you are in Zurich, I would suggest you go to Flumserberg to warm up...
Flumserberg is just an hour away from Zurich..
Additionally, we have a glocals ski/snowboard course in Jan.. 4 Saturdays in a row.. You do not have to take the lessons, just come along to Ski.. There will be plenty of people taking lessons and also plenty who will go just for skiing...

There are also places like Flims, Laax, Arosa, Davos where you could go for a weekend.. Very convenient to travel by train..
Check out the SBB "snow-n-rail" offers for a combo...

Hope this helps,

Cheers, Ehsaan
