Hi..I have not moved yet but i am addicted GOL already!!!
Hi all,
I am moving to Geneva in Jan and a colleague sent me the link to GOL so that I can get acquainted with the place.
It's great to know what such a website exists.

I am originally from Mauritius but have lived in Singapore for the past 8 years. I will be moving for work.

My little darling of a dog (Jack Russell of 3 years named Youkie) will be moving with me and I think the temparature change will be quite a shock to his system. He was born in the very hot weather of Singapore.

I would love to get in touch with people who have dogs 'cause i really need some pointers on boarding (for when i travel) and how receptive Geneva is to dogs (like 'can i travel by bus and train with Youkie' type of things).

Talk to you soon,
Mindy

nice to hear that there are people like me. i will also be moving to geneva for work in january. i will also, hopefully, be bringing my dog (chihuahua and australian sheep dog cross from australia). i would love to hear about how you bring him/her into the country. i am thinking about stopping in singapore on the way because of my dog. otherwise it is about 30 hours for the poor thing in the cage. do you know of any dog friendly hotels in singapore? i am also a bit worried about finding an apartment that allows me and my dog.

Hi Icridd,

I have never heard of dog tax. I guess I'll have to deal with it when it comes up.

If you are planning to stay in Singapore for a few days, you'll have to board your dog. Hotels in Singapore do not accept dogs. The best boarding place in Singapore (from experience) is the pet hotel. You can email them prior to arriving.
This is the website address.

As for the actual move, well, Singapore is classified as rabbies free so based on the bvet website, all i need to do is to get Youkie vaccinated (rabies shot) one month prior to my departure and obtain a health cert from the vet. Once I arrive, i will have to declare him at the customs and pay some sort of customs duty.
Check out the website below for more guidance. If you are bringing him from Aus, i think you need to follow some very specific procedures.

Apartment wise, i am in the same boat as you. I have heard of so many horror stories about how difficult it is to find a flat and I reckon that with a dog, it would be a bit more difficult.

Good luck and talk to you soon,

Mindy

thanks for the help in singapore. year australia is also rabies free, which i think will make things a lot easier. if you come before me please let me know how it goes.

are you just going to the aiport with Youkie in an airplane certified crate and paying the extra baggage fee? or are you paying one of those carrrier organizations to do it for you?

good luck with the flat - i have the feeling we are going to need it!

I'll be travelling with Youkie myself. I bought and airline approved carrier but have not booked the flight yet. I heard that Finnair has some very good policies about pet travel. Check out their website.

It's really expensive to go through the those carriers.

yeah. I'll definitely keep in touch. I am expecting to fly by the first week of Jan. what about you?

I m St?phanie and I live in Geneva, well, in neighbouring France, for several years.
I ve read you are worrying about finding a flat with a dog : all I can say is it s just hard to find a flat in Geneva, with or without a dog. Lots of swiss people have dogs!! :-) Dont worry about that.
If I can help you, give you informations about geneva, the traffic (you have to be careful with that point when you choose where to live!) or what else !? Do not hesitate to ask me!
See you...
