Just arrived in Nyon!

Hi everyone,

I am interning at UEFA for the month of August, I just arrived in Nyon and I don't know anyone at all!

I would love to find a group who love to do fun stuff (outdoor activities, partying, trying new things) either here in Nyon, Geneva or Lausanne!

I also have a lot of questions for the locals!

Please get in touch if you think you can help!

Hugs,
Reema

Thank you David for the quick response.

I heard Nyon is relatively small and is more suitable for a family than a single girl, how accurate is that? I am here to work but would obviously also want to enjoy my time after working hours and on weekends.

And, what time do the shops close?

Lausanne and Geneva both have university populations that include many post-grads who are around your age.  Perhaps you could network with one of these groups?

@Reema welcome and good on you for asking the question about how/if glocals can help you. David's response was spot on.

This is the *best* month to be in/near Geneva, because of the Fêtes de Genève (free outdoor conerts everywhere), CinéTransat (free outdoor movies on the lake), etc. And many many people post activities related to these major events as well as there own activities, such as Backgammon night, various sports (e.g. ultimate, volleyball, badminton, running group), language exchanges, Curry nights, things related to the Olympics and so on.

If you're not careful, you might wear yourself out here! ;)

Check out the Things to Do tab above and choose a city (Geneva, Nyon, Lausanne). Sadly, the website no longer has the ability to select Geneva + Lausanne at the same time, so you have to look at the activities one at a time.

I hereby extend an invitation to the CineTransat group. We'll be meeting for The Shawshank Redemption (*MUST* SEE MOVIE) and Slumdog Mililonaire (Danny Boyle's preparation project pre-London 2012 Olympics hehe) this Thursday and Friday evenings. You can find the group here: http://www.glocals.com/groups/geneva/geneva-cinetransat-2012-group.htm

Again, welcome to glocals. Now, get ready to have a great time!

Hi Reema,

Welcome to the area.

As you are an intern, you might want to try the UN Intern Network on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/3262380467/.

There is also a group in Nyon for connection au pairs.  You aren't an au pair, obviously, but you're potentially in the same age-group so you might want to go along to their next meet up http://www.linkaupairgeneva.net/.
