Lausanne Life Support.

Hi,

So as a Londoner here in Lausanne I think things are going to take a little time to get used to.

Does anyone have tips on how to survive coming from a 24/7 city (where I could pop out for milk when I want a cup of tea late in the evening) to living here which is lovely but frustrating when you realize that your missing the right sauce for dinner on Sunday afternoon?

As you can probably tell, I've recently moved here on my own and would like to make some friends away from the office whom I could hang out with and who enjoy doing some of the same things as I do.

I'm keen to see what the mountains are like in the summer as I hear that the mountain biking is allot of fun, I want to visit some of the other parts of Switzerland (and surrounding countries), there is apparently a great outdoor thermal swimming pool about 20 mins from Lausanne. There must also be a hundred other exciting things that I've not even thought about yet. Perhaps some kind people could suggest some things or point me towards a good group here on Glocals, I've already seen that there are some nice book clubs and plenty of drinks nights.

Well I really just wanted to say "Hi. How do you do?" to fellow expats here and break the ice, so there we go.

I look forward to chatting and meeting some of you in the not too distant future.

Take care.

Dom.

Welcome to Lausanne - its a lovely place and I am sure it will grow on you.

Why don't you come down and joing the running group in Ouchy on a Mon and Wed night.  Its very social with a great group of people -  and we even manage to fit in a run before the beer.

Otherwise there are plenty of other groups and activities happening in the area.

Relax and go with the flow - and you will find that you will enjoy the place, it just takes some time.

Cheers

Hi Zimmo,

I'm not very good at running - i'd love to be better but just struggle alot with it - so how far and how fast does your group tend to run? I'm always keen for a beer.

Hi again,

I'm a Londoner too.I HATED it here at first. It was so dull- and so quiet. And as for Sundays....But I've been here 20 years now - yes,I survived.

I'm sure there are man others like you.I don't know how old you are - I'm 50 but go out a lot.I'm not a typical ex-pat and don't work for a big company.

If you'd like to do something and would like someone to join you, drop me a line.

Good luck
