Looking for practical tips
Hi!

I'm an engineering student from sweden, and I will move to Geneva in september to do my master thesis for 4-5 months in a software consultant firm. My girlfriend is living in the area and I hope to stay after I finish, there seems to be oppurtunities to find an interesting job in the Geneva area.

I am familiar with Geneva since I have been there a lot while visiting my girlfriend, but I am not familiar with corporate culture or what kind of obstacles I might face after moving here. After what i have read on EU sites which advice people in my situation, everything seems to be in order... but I doubt that a transition like this may be without any hassle? :)

I hope that I can find some inspiration and hopefully some advice on avoiding any tricky situations which might come up....

And learning french might be an issue to, so I hope that I will find a way... any advice on this would be greatly appriciated too ;)

Well.. looks like you have all the symptoms of a young person making a big move and having some anxieties.. all of which are normal, but luckily you'll be coming to a place which is already familiar, you already know someone special in town, and you have a job and place to live, so all in all, you're way ahead of the curve.

once you get here, you'll soon meet mannnny people from aalll over the world, and so many things to do during the week as well as weekends if you're into outdoor events, traveling and socializing.  Your anxiety will melt away in no time.

It's up to you on how much you take advantage of the many resources available within our community.  If you have specific questions, someone is bound to have an answer.

Corporate culture is different from company to company, and boss to boss... so can't help you much there.  One thing I will say is expect to be punctual all the time!

In life there is no avoiding tricky situations, just tackling them the best way possible.  Obstacles you might face after moving here... apart from flat hunting, shops closing too early, nothing open sundays, french spoken outside glocals community, finding doctors / dentists, ... but  hundreds of new people arriving each month have managed, and so will you!

There are plenty of french courses provided. Do a search on the Forums - where/how or the General and loads of advices have been given on where you can go for lessons.

So, hows that for inspiration? :D
