Moved to Thoiry for at least a year

Hi all,

I'm working at CERN for at least the next year and am interested in meeting some people outside of the physics community.  I'm a pretty big fan of skiing (specifically XC along the Jura), table tennis, and outdoor activities of any kind.  I'll have a pretty hefty workload, but will also want to do some relaxing in Geneva.

I've been here a couple summers past and had a blast, but staying for the year means that I'll have time to really get to know Geneva and what it has to offer.  I look forward to meeting some/many of you.

Welcome to Switzerland!

Welcome to Geneva!!

Oh you are working at CERN??Nice and interesting!!

As you stay here for a year I think you have plenty of time to discover not only Geneva but also other really nice places!

Cu around and have fun!

For a non-physicist, the best explanation (I think) would be this:

Through interaction with the higgs field particles gain mass.

I'd like to add, though that the higgs boson (a particle) is a necessary product of this field.  So, finding it helps to lend credit to the model that we've been using for years and helps to narrow down possible new theories that may be developed in the future to more satisfactorily explain the phenomenon that we see in our universe.

I've heard people saying that what you are drying to do at CERN it's quite imposible to achieve it. It's not my opinion is just what I've heard

Anyway I'm not a scientist so I'm not going to say anything
