Moving from Belgium to Geneva

Good afternoon,

I just joined the GLocals community and wanted to introduce myself. I am 29, both an IT guy and a gemmologist and I just got a job in Geneva. I will thus very shortly be moving there and would be very interested in meeting people and discovering nice places.

I currently am focusing on finding a place to live in as I will be starting in early January, which provides me with little time to find something. I am interested in a two-bedroom apartment around Eaux-Vives or not too far from the Quai des Bergues. The aim is to be able to walk as much as possible. Some of you might thus hear from me quickly as I will be having an eye on the ads now Laughing

Best regards to all of you,

William

Hello Christophe,

Thank you for your post. I knew there were quite a few Belgians in Geneva, but it went faster than I thought to be in contact with one of them. I will definitely let you know as soon as I am there.

You are right that the apartment hunt is more tricky than I imagined. It is not always as documented as I thought it would be. I do think that being there and roaming around will reveal more efficient than checking via Internet, especially with such short delays.

Kind regards,

William

Hi William ,

Unfortunately they don't put for rent signs here on the houses . you will have to use the internet .
First decide how far from work you want to stay and then use sites like comparis.ch to look .

If you go though an agency it is a bit of a headache since what they do is collect a lot of applications and then choose one thay like the most, so its not first come , can pay , first served basis ...
When you can deal with a owner without a regie it is much better .

I have only been here two weeks, but if you need any help, id be happy to help .

Hi Christophe,

Thank you again for your post and all these details. It starts making a bit more sense to me. I have checked many apartments online today and reached out to many people. I am now waiting to hear back from them.

I am really looking forward to having this part under control. Once that is done, things will already appear a lot easier! I will post updates to this thread as soon as there are some news.

Best regards,

William

Hi William, I am moving over next month and have been looking at Eaux-Vives. How did you get on?
