Well, I'm just saying hi.
I'm not sure if it's legit to join and post before I actually move but here I am.
If everything goes as planned I'll be moving to Lausanne mid-way through 2013. There's a chance I might postpone this according to what happens with another project I have in mind but I digress. . . the point is that, either way, earlier or later, I'll be moving.
I'll be looking for a job, improving my French and looking for opportunities to network. I'll be glad (then) to join some of the activities organized here.
The reason I seem to be getting ahead of myself is that I'm trying to best prepare myself for what it seems, from what I've read, will be a long and difficult job search. I'll leave that for separate thread.
Cheers.

Oh. . . I forgot a couple things (one of them being that there's no edit function here).
I'm Swiss but have never actually lived in the country before.
Moving is a project I've had on and off since a really long time (decades, even when having only three of those). . . until I got to the point where I decided that a) my life is more interesting with the project than without it b) if I'm ever gonna try and pull this off I better do it now that I'm still (rather) young and unmarried.
It's not so much that I think highly of CH itself (which I somehow do) but the fact that, given my alternatives, it also makes a much better "hub" from which to visit other places (for both geographical and economic reasons). I'll also get to use my English and/or French everyday. . .
All in all, I seek personal growth.
. . and my name is Fred.

Fred I am Swiss and from Lausanne. My boyfriend is Uruguayan and was more or less in the same situation than you in the past. . We both live in Geneva though. Please feel free to send me private messages if you need some supports =) Cheers

Hi Fred
I moved to Lausanne last year from Neuchatel. My best advice is the hardest thing is to find a decent apartment! Best prepare for a longish search or be pretty flexible about where you want to live. I'm glad I made the effort though. I love Lausanne and living in the city is great (even with police sirens at 3am). Good luck. See you in Lausanne sometime!
Best wishes
Lisa

jcatjost, thank you!
It'd be great to be in touch with the people who've been through the process.
I'll most likely be absent during the first half of 2013 - as I'll be travelling elsewhere - but I'll sure catch up with everyone and use this site more fully once I do move. I've barely skimmed through the website but, so far, this community seems like an AWESOME idea.
Hi Lisa.
I've heard that many times (and that the issue is worse, far worse in Genève).
Is okLogements any good? I'll only be looking for a studio at first.
See you.
