New from the UK

Hello all,

reading the posts of other 'newcommers' and the lovely welcome they get on this forum, I got encouraged to write my own 'new member introduction'.

My husband and I, (plus also our swiss mountain dog Robin) have recently relocated from West Sussex in the UK. (Although I am originaly Czech)

All is still new to us and with our limited french, we keep a very small social circuit :-)

My husband works morning till night and I am setting up our new life, before I will look for work myself.

We would love to be part of some get together and hopefuly meet new friends.

Bon journee to everyone,

Jitka and James

Well, welcome to Geneva then! :-)

I'm sure you'll find lots to do, and glocals is a great place to find just about anything, from housing to stuff to fill your house, to social activities, or to that job you're searching for (in the Classifieds). Good luck!

Hi, please let me know of any get togethers as well. It is refreshing from time to time to speak English. I first arrived in '92 and there was only one real expat opportunity at Manor. So I know how you feel. Friendships I made there lasted 10 years or more.

I live at a campground now which is great for BBQs if anyone interested, right on the lake, 100 ft. from the water, festive atmosphere.

Kate, originally from Vermont,USA 3rd time living in Geneva.

Hi Jikta,

I have also just relocated with my (I call him my weekend husband as that's the only time we are each other too!) husband and  young children and am from the UK. Though I've spent the last year and a half in Denmark. I have only been here a few weeks but I have found everyone to be wonderful and accommodating. You won't have problems  making friends. Just try and go to as many meet ups as you can.

Speaking of meet ups, meetup.com has some great activities in the Geneva area.

Hi Yasmine,

thanks for your kind message and the tip for meet.com - I will definitely have a peruse.

It sounds like you are settleing in well, I think children can be a good ice breaker and it's easier to become part of the community with them.
Even our dog has been a subject of many converstaions which wouldnt normally happened :-)

All the best & let's enjoy the sunshine!

Jitka
