New to Geneva- UK expat escaping brexit ;)

Hi all,

Pleased to virtually meet you. Im new to Geneva having moved from the UK. Not really to escape brexit, but very timely :D Im looking to meet new people and find some social activities to do in the evening and weekends.

I love being outdoors, baking and general socialising.

Any recommendations for great activties ideas, people looking for a companion in something new or groups to join would be great.

Thanks

Sian

Hello Sian !

I'm also a newbie in Geneva (St Julien en Genevois more specifically) and I'm French.

I love hiking in nature, I am looking for people who are interested in walks in nature. I also want to practice my english at the same time.

I also like to have a drink after work ;)

Hi Elisa,

Great, welcome!

Sounds perfect. Im also looking to take French classes too as i currently don’t speak the language. It would be good to meet up :)

Would you like to get together at some point after work and go from there?

Hi Sian,

Welcome to Geneva. I would have prefered if you had delayed your move here and worked in support of the 2nd referendum and to stop Brexit, but... hey, it must be really frustrating, given the level of BorisJohnsonnesNigelFaragenessRees-Moggness in Brittish public discourse, or rather the Murdoch press.

Which brings me to a suggestion: want to organize an event that will probably attract a lot of Glocalers and make you some friends? I follow the Brittish press on a daily basis, but others less masochistic probably don't, so I have heard a lot of Glocalers ask questions about Brexit and the dynamics of the politics around it. How about a discussion over coffee or drinks, where you share your views from the ground? Just something very informal, a venting session if you wish, to give others here a human perspective that would help them understand why it is happening, or at least, a perspective from the 48% and some insights on the reasons of the sanest of the 52%.

You clearly know the british too well, any excuse for a drink and to talk brexit :') Sounds like a good idea and definitely a solution to meeting new people for me.

Im new to glocals and the community, to i have no idea how this would work?

Well, all you have to do is:

1.- Choose a date and time

2.- Pick a place. If you are not familiar with Geneva, you can browse through some future or past events announced in Glocals and see where some events have been held. I can browse myself and send you some suggestions by email

3.- Post an event announcement with a catchy title, inviting some brittons and non-brittons to share their thoughts and come with questions, but mostly to use the topic as an occassion to have a drink, a few laughs and shed a few tears...

People will sign up for the event, so you will have an idea how many and who will attend.

If you need help, send me a PM (private message) using Glocals.

Well, why not keep an eye on “Things to do” and also check out the activities you’ll find under “Groups”?

There’s plenty of choice.
