New to Geneva area - looking for female alpinists... or enthusiasts

Dear all,

I'm new to the Geneva area - I've moved here for the proximity to the mountains!!

I work in web usability and user experience for large corporates, as well as being founder of Alpine Fix - a yoga & climbing business.

I'm looking to meet up with like minded alpine mountaineering or climbing enthusiasts to go out with.

I've also launched a not-for-profit venture to run an Alpine Adventure Club for women, designed to get more women confident outdoors and spawn some new female mountain guides.

Great to find a place here to connect with people :)

I would have thought a dog like that would be more into red wine than beer.

Im new to Geneva and general what the wonderful swiss alps has to offer. Plus surronding areas.

Hi Sian,

If you're looking to get into mountaineering, climbing etc. you should come to our club meet in May.

https://www.alpinefix.com/womens-alpine-adventure-club-summer-2019

There will be lots of fellow newbies there looking to meet up with other women locally and also, more experienced to help share learning.

All the best, Louise.

i consider  myself to be an advanced alpinist and high altitude expedition climber. I do not however consider myself to be female. Planning on continuing the journey in Chamonix soon!

Yes, Tony. Only female. Wonder why? Read this:

https://www.rei.com/blog/climb/new-survey-finds-nearly-one-third-of-respondents-have-experienced-sexual-harassment-or-assault-while-climbing

https://americanalpineclub.org/news/2018/8/24/aac-sexual-harassment-policy-statement

It is not only an issue of avoiding harrassment, but also of female beginning climbers learning and developing the confidence necessary for a challenging activity without the condescending attitude of males telling them how and with whom to climb.

Hi Tony,

Thanks. It isn't a sexist question. I don't believe your gender should have anything to do with climbing or alpine peaks.

I just said females as this particular club is just for females.

There are plenty of alpine organizations but I think they can be quite male dominated in terms of participation. It's not meant to be exclusive, just another opportunity for women to engage and share.

Good luck on your adventures.

Hi Louise, Siam and Judith,

Nice to read your posts!

I also recently arrived to Geneva and like to hike, climb, snow shoe etc. I know how to (lead)climb and multi-pitch and want to explore the mountains.

If any of you would like to meet, it would be nice to discover some green or snowy mountains together.

I also have a puppy-horse for whom some dog socialisation would be good.

Hi,

I'm going to be based near Briancon now all summer but if anyone wants to come visit. I'll have bouldering, climbing and a via ferrata on the doorstep :)

Do please get in touch if you'd like to come play!

And also check out my May event for alpine and climbing:
