Hi everybody!
I'm an American, who just this past week been dropped rather unceremoniously into Lausanne, where I've started work at my new job at EPFL. This is my first gig overseas, and I hope I'm not in too far over my head. I know hardly a word of French, which is just fine at work, because my whole lab operates mostly in English. But for the rest of life... well, I'd like to find some non-work friends who also speak English. So, that's the story in a nutshell. I'm gonna come out to some of these events here, and see what happens!

Hey Jeff,
I'd like to say welcome, although I'm sure you'll get the "official" Glocals welcome from Julian soon as well. I'm sure you'll like it here, although as always I'm sure you'll need some time for adjusting. I just got back from a short trip back to the US and I'm here at EPFL as well so if there's anything that I can help with feel free to contact me.
On another note, your pic seems to suggest you do a bit of flying? We have a small airport in Lausanne that's good for some general aviation. It's only 50 nm from Grenchen (pretty much the heart of GA in Switzerland) but its great in terms of location with proximity to the lakes and Alps making every flight an amazing experience.
Which brings to mind an idea... maybe we should organize a Glocals fly-in? You know, start off with breakfast in one city, fly to the other have lunch and then fly back to the first city.
Anyway, welcome to Lausanne and Glocals and I'm looking forward to meeting up at one of the events...
