Practice French

hello

i am new in here (glocals)

i am trying to organize meetings for people who want to practice and improve their french, this is my 5th year in here and i can say that i am not happy enough with my french, i consider myself good in reading , listening understanding, but when it comes to speaking i start to hmm hmm Euhh Euh Undecided and spending time to think of what i am gonna say next!! :( so if you are interested in sharing or helping please PM me and let's organize a meeting that we all practice french and i am sure it is going also to be fun meeting new people from different back grounds.

Language Exchange is not a bad idea as well, i speak fluent english and ofcourse arabic (mother tongue)

cheers

I'd be interested, depending on the time/location of course. I'm really only free on weekday evenings or weekends. Also, there seem to be several of these groups already on glocals - it might be worth it to try and join an existing group rather than starting from scratch.

Just to let you know new people show up every week. We read the 20minutes in French and discuss and translate. We are usually 6-10 people. Check out the posting, today or tomorrow and see who will attend. Definitely a unique experience .

Hi Lisa,

It seems we are very much in the same boat (I had HS French and still recall some very basic phrases, but that's about it - though I can still read and understand a decent bit).

If the group doesn't work out, let me know if you'd want to practice (or just share the study materials).

Best,

Steve

Just to say for those in the Lausanne area i highly recommend the French/English Coffee and Cookies (Morges) on Sunday's.  It really is excellent, there is always a different mix of people and the levels of proficiency in French vary drastically so don't be worried!

our first meeting will be in GENEVA, SATURDAY 23 MARCH at 17:00

by tomorrow we will let u know where exactly we will meet, so Geneva's residents we are waiting for you to recomend us a nice place there, Vivian, Diana, Liza, Steve Fauziah? i am sure there r plenty of places , but really i am not familliar with Geneva, let us know.

i can say that most of the paricipants have a good command in french, Liza: study materials are ofcourse so welcome, but mainly it is about Speaking, many of us have the french somewhere in our heads but we just need to let it out, this meeting is a chance to make it without being afraid or shy to make mistakes as we are all in the same level.

still any new people who'd like to join are welcome, native french speakers also.

cheers.

hello all

so here is the place where we are going to meet this evening (17:00 - 20:00)

"Lord Nelson Pub" @ Place du Molard

Place du Molard, 9 - 1204 Genève

http://www.lordnelsonpub.ch/

more info how to get there :-

Coming from gare Cornavin you can for instance take bus nr 8 right in front of the station (direction Veyrier) and get down 3 stops afterwards at "place du port" then go through that road (rue du rhone) in the opposite direction of the bus, just 2 blocks and you'll get to this molard square (can also walk, should be 10-15'). The pub is on the other side of the square (on the left)

when u arrive there just ask any of the workers about (French Practice) and they will lead u to our table

a big thanks for Diana :)

hope to see you all

cheeers.

Hi Ammon,

I am interested in this too. Sorry, I missed out on the meeting on Saturday - I would definitely had joined you if i'd known about it.

I have a couple of suggestions:-

1. rather than run this in competition with the other group, mentioned by epicure above (which also meets late on saturday afternoon), why not start this one a little later, so that people can make use if both if they so desire.

2. why not start this as a group on here, so that new times and venues will distributed to all group members automatically.

I won't be around this weekend but maybe the following one.

Hope to see you soon

David

hello David

thanks for the suggestions, actually i don-t know why do u see it as a competition, it is not. i just had an idea and was looking for people to share it with, these guys have their meetings and their way of practicing french. maybe people who saw this thread for sure they knew about them (as u can see above they r insisting to market for the cookies in Morges) so it is open to all. and people can decide what meeting suits them more.2 options to choose from; we make it on Saturdays and the cookies are on Sundays.

yes for sure we will start a group, and ofcourse all suggestions r welcome, specially the positive ones to make it work.

ciao.
