Saw your introduction post on the forum. Since you're from SF did you ever think of getting into the startup world or the math you study is not applicable to the real world ? If you are up for a beer let me know.

@Hannah: I miss SF very much too, but I'm also have a good time here in Lausanne.  Still enjoying the first everything-is-so-new phase of my time abroad. 

@James: I never really gave leaving academia for the start-up world much serious thought.  I think if the whole academic thing doesn't work out for me for whatever reason then I'd look into it.  But I'd need a good idea before starting a company.  I like the idea of being my own boss that I get in the research world, and if I could get that in the start-up world too, that would be cool.  Things are pretty busy for me right now with moving and all, but maybe we can meet up maybe in a week after things settle down for me.
