Since this is the new members introductions, do I really need to mention that I'm new in town?

Hey,

my name is Kerstin and I'm an Austrian now living in Saint-Genis-Pouilly and working in Geneva.

I just arrived here about a week ago and already started my new job.

Normally I go back to Saint Genis straight after work, so I would love to meet people who live in that area.

Unfortunately I don't have a car, so my possibilities of hanging out in Geneva until really late in the night are limited.

Apart from people to socialise with I'm also looking for some advice on the possibilities of getting a driving licence in Switzerland. I don't have a driving licence at all so I would like to do a course and everything here. Problem is just, that there is no way on earth that I could do all of this in French. So I would appreciate it if someone could let me know if it is possible to do it in a different language. My first pick would be German of course, but if that is not possible I could do it in English. I tried to get some info through auto-ecole.ch as advised on a website but somehow it didn't work. Anyways, if anyone here has experience in this field it would be great if you could contact me.

Also, I'm vegetarian and I would love to find out about (affordable) vegetarian cuisine in my area...

Hi Kerstin,

Welcome to the area. I also live on the French side in Echenevex, just a bit up the road from you. You are right that there is limited things to do here on the French side of the border and without a car that will make things more difficult for sure. After finding an apartment finding a car was second on my list. I have been here since the summer and I am starting to get adjusted so I am sure you will be fine. Sorry I can't give you any advice on the drivers license since I came with a US license, I have been struggling with the bureaucracy of getting my car registered... sigh. Well now I am rambling so welcome and good luck :)
