Hello All!
I'll be moving to Geneva in the beginning of December and hoped to get some feedback on all the Geneva has to offer! Let me know all of your favorite spots so i have a good idea for when i get there... hoping to find a good coffee and book shop, and a few good restaurants as well

Hey- depends what you're into really, restaurant-wise, if you like chicken, Chez ma cousine in the old town is friendly, homely and cheap (definitely a perk in Geneva). For more trendy drinks, food and a nice location: Brasserie des Halles in the middle of the river is really nice as well. Good luck with the move, Geneva is a great place.

yes actually i am coming to be an au pair! how long have you been there? the one thing im super nervous about is going about the city when i dont speak a word of french. ahh!!

dont worry too much about the language I live here for nearly two years and I dont speak french at all, in Geneva most of the people speak English, I'm sure you can manage without any problem ;)

I've been here since April, and will be leaving in April I think... I wouldn't worry too much about the language... sooo many people here speak English. If you are really worried you can go to www.livemocha.com and learn French there... it's free and really good! Kinda like a free Rosetta Stone. They have a ton of languages to choose from... If you have any questions on anything don't hesitate to message me!

Both Evan and Andy are very nice, and tons of fun... if you'd like when you get here we can all go out...
As for restaurants... as long as you don't mind spending some time digging, you can definitely find some good ones... Chez ma Cousine is great for chicken... I think someone mentioned it before, and there is also this place called La Boursiere that has fantastic pasta and burgers, and pretty much everything... I don't really know how to describe where it is... I will look it up and let you know...

Haha, I guess kinda on the website, but that was just first contact, everything else went from there... I'm sure the events they put on are cool, but in our case it was like 'hey you seem cool gimme your number and lets get a brew'...
Evan and I are good friends, I'm not entirely convinced Sam doesn't hate me, especially after this evening's escapades (all three of us and then some went to the pub), but for sure, you are more than welcome to get at any one of us when you set up shop in Geneva and wanna do something.

ummmm, im going to have to say absolutley i am going to be giving you guys a buzz when i get there. looking at flights now and i'm thinking i'll be heading out on the 2nd of December. it is going to feel so totally weird not knowing a single soul on the entire continent :p you guys are gonna have to show me all the hot spots for sure!

haha i got all three of those things down. but now, i have a question... so i was talking to the mom of the family i'm going to be an Au-pair for, and she was telling me that they live in Thonex, Geneva. All i can say is, where the heck is that?... and please tell me its not too far from Geneva, although it does have it in the name.

Well, you're kind of out in the boonies, but good news: trams and buses run out there all the time so you can probably get to center city in 20 minutes or so. it is most DEFINITELY suburbia though.

I think it is time for me to jump in on this one again... Thonex is the town right next to where I live... It isn't too far, and if you don't have to take any buses, you should be totally fine! Ask the mom what stop you would take to get into town and I will let you know... but you most likely won't have any problems...
Don't worry about not knowing people, because like Evan said, you now "know" us! I promise it isn't as scary as it may seem... I was kinda nervous too when I came over here, but now I love it so much here... plus you already are one step ahead of me... I literally had NO contacts whatsoever! And don't listen to Andy... I do not hate him at all... he is an absolute sweetheart, and I love hanging out with him (and Evan too!)
If you haven't booked a flight yet you might wanna check out www.bt-store.com. That's where I got my ticket and it was the cheapest around by a lot of money!
