Swiss in Berlin wants to return to Lausanne

Hi everybody,

I´m a Swiss girl living in Berlin where I work as a language teacher. After more than 4 years in this nice but cold and exploitative city my partner and I feel homesick. We plan our return to Lausanne for between June and September this year. Unfortunately appartments are scarce around the Lake of Geneva and we don´t have a job yet in Switzerland. So it is almoust impossible to rent by a property management company from Berlin. We hope to find people here who understand our situation and may help us to return home. Perhaps an expat in Lausanne likes to move to Berlin? Currently we live in a nice, quiet, low priced appartment in Berlin-Mitte...

We would be glad about every appartment hint.

I have the same remark ;-) Having lived in Berlin for some years, it is indeed cold (but only in Winter and only in a meteorological sense), so I'm curious....! Doesn't sound like the Berlin I know.

Also good luck with finding a place!

Hi Jeannine

Ritchie knows what I am going to say next............but I'll say it anyway as we are good buddies.

Try to find something [even temporary] over this side of the Lake, where accommodation is far easier to find, probably costs a great deal less in rent, and where you can take either the 07.00 boat, or the 08.20 boat to Lausanne depending upon your commitments. We are talking here specifically about Evian-les-Bains but there are fast boats from Thonon to serve commuters as well.

Whatever you decide, good luck, although you may find that Lausanne has changed a bit.

For what it’s worth, my advice would be to stay where you are until at least one of you finds a job in CH (or France).  Without employment, you could have a very cool reception from régies.

I speak from the first-hand experience of someone who was transferred back to his his home town of Geneva, on full pay and all the trimmings,  purely for health reasons.  Régies reacted as if he was about to expire any minute and it took us 22 months to get a lease on an unfurnished flat.

So why not have a good look-around visit first to test the waters and then decide when or whether to move?

All the best anyway, R.
