Week-end activities in Geneva
 Hi you all Glocalers,

I've been in Geneva since 10 years. So why join only now?  Well, I lost my wife 3 years ago (cancer), and most of my friends here are couples with kids.  Sounds familiar (the later part)?

My life experiences have made me understand its value, and now I'm trying to enjoy it to the fullest.  But if my job keeps me busy during the week, when comes week-end, apart from the 2-3 singles in the band, we tend to always go back to the very same activities (yep, Geneva is NOT Paris or Brussels).

So I had dinner yesterday with a great friend (who now lives in NY - another great city) and she told me I should register on Glocals.  Since I'm a well behaving boy, here I am!

I do speak English, French and Italian (+ a little bit of German). So if you want a sparring partner to improve your language skills, do not hesitate (you will correct my mistakes also).

On the sports side, I do Krav-Maga (write to ask if you wanna know what this is). In summer, I like mountain biking around Geneva forests. In winter I used to do Nordic sky - but honestly, I much prefer swimming in hot seas and enjoying sunny beaches when it's cold down here. Any plans to share for this year end?

Ah yes, one more thing, I'm a guy, but I love window-shopping (probably because that's the most obvious activity on Geneva Saturdays). So ladies, if you need someone to carry your bags during your Saturday shopping trip...

Hope to hear from you soon,
Didier

Hi Maria and Bertand - thanks for your first comments on my message!

Krav-Maga means close-combat.  It is the technique used by the Israeli army.  Basically it is built on the natural movements your body would do in case of a sudden attack, and also another principle is that the simplest it is, the more efficient.  Very indicated to women, men, young ,old, kids, etc... Another principle was that this combat technique should be used by both sexes and different age groups (eg. Israeli army).

So it is not only self-defense. You do get to hit (and get hit by) people, especially in the last 5-10 minutes of the training session, when we do free combat.  Not a martial "Art", just martial...

Having said that, I'm a very nice guy, not aggressive at all - it's just good to know one can react appropriately in case of aggression - especially in this dangerous jungle that Geneva is ;-)

 Bertrand,

I pass on the demo - I'm too young (in the learning) to pretend being able to train, teach or demonstrate anything (without hurting or getting hurt).
But I can give the right references of qualified masters if people are interested.
