Since you are in a French speaking place....maybe take the opportunity to learn french and make friends with locals ;-) 

ah yes didn't mention, i speak fluent french and have been living in french speaking countries for 7 years. Montreux isn't short of friendly people but i'd really like to have some people to speak english with. I'm scared that i may be losing some of my mother tongue.

I understand how you feel, and I have kinda found it a bit difficult here, even in French, people from around here are quite cold and unfriendly! 

Have you been out in Geneva at all? You know there is often parties for ex pats in Geneva called 'Glocals Parties' I have been to one and it was really nice! People are really friendly there and its a nice mix! 

Hey Dylan, I'm an American in Vevey.  Feel free to give me a shout.  Also, you should attend the drinks events on Friday nights through glocals in Lausanne to meet some people in our area.

I know what you mean, Matthew, some of the people can be pretty uptight and generaly not very open minded. But there are still quite a few cool people around. Plus here in Montreux, lot's of students from all over the world come to the english school as well as that umm... prestigeous restaurant school thingy back in the hills Haha!

I actually havn't spent much time in geneva yet. Sounds tempting, I'll check it out , thanks!
