Hola! It's a herb that you infuse in hot water and you drink with a metallic straw.. it is a very special: most people dont like it it on first taste... i do!
the cultural part of it is that friends meet and have a "mate" together, talking about anything. my point is that i don't know where to buy this in Geneva... I know in Paris, but not here

if you dont find yerba, alfajores, dulce de leche and so on, i'll send you a webpage taht a another argenitean friend recommend me last week for deliveries, is a bit expensive but it worthy...

The tea shop (not sure of its name) between Old Town and Rivehas has  a wide variety of Yerba Mate.  Coop also sells a tea called Mate which seems to be the same thing-just in bags.

Dantan, thanks for the data, just for your info, the bags-presentation is quite different, and i find it much less strong... 

I did not update you on my search, but I tried La Bodega Latina on 3, rue Caroline and it was fantastic. Thanks Marina!!! Very nice place for latin american food!! I also found Havanna Dulce de Leche and Alfajores... the price is quite high, but well..

this morning I just enjoyed a mate on my balcony, with the sun and fresh air before goign to work... :)

y para los que conocen.. en serio, La Bodega Latina tiene de todo.. me compre una nobleza gauch sin palo, un kilo de cruz de malta y unos de Kraus, una organica que me gusta bastante. Pero hay de todo, hasta unas uruguayas que no conocía..

ahora se viene la primavera, quién para un matecito al lago uno de esos días ?? jajaj :)

Hi!! I'm Cecilia from Argentina. My husband and I have just moved to Geneva last week. Did you ever manage to find where to buy yerba? We'd be very interested to know! ;-)

As of now we are looking to buy online. I don't know whether there's a store somewhere in town. Have found a tea shop at the airport but it's 8CHF for 100g, haha... that's to drink it as tea.. too little to make mate...

La mejor tienda para comprar yerba mate se encuentra en Rue Caroline 3, La Bodega Latina. Es justo pasando el puente hacia Carouge, viniendo de Plainpalais, mano izquierda. Esta buenisimo, no sabes todo lo que hay ahi, yerba, alfajores, dulce de batata/manbrillo, etc. Hasta shampoo y Beldent de argentina... O sea : si o si tenes que conocer. Y hay TODAS las marcas de yerba (hasta otras de paraguay, uruguay y Brasil).. Lo unico es que sale un poco caro...

Che y si quieres, juntate al grupo de amantes del mate twitter.com/mategva (lo animo yo jeje). Asi nos juntamos a tomar todos...
