Does it make sense to keep members that have not logged in for more than 3 years? I know it had been discussed at length in the past. I'm wondering what is the actual site policy today?

in my opinion after 6 months from the last login a user should be set as "inactive" and hidden in the site (this shouldn't in any way prevent the user to log in and upon the login the status should go back automatically to active)
and after 12 months the user should be "expired" (and thus removed from the system, this would also free up storage space)
an email warning system should be implemented:
- warning email upon the "inactive" status setting
- warning email 3 months before expiration
- waring email 1 month before expiration
- warning email 1 week before expiration
