Bollywood & Bhangra Bash (19th April)
Thanks to those 400+ people who joined and made this event a successful and a fun event.
This was my 3rd Bollywood party in Geneva and I must say, this was the BEST!!!
It was a fantastic party; a successful party. And the credit goes to all the guest who attended and made it a fun event.

I would like to thank a lot of people. Without these people, it would have been a chaos!
I would like to thanks

Geeta (The Bouncer) - She did a fantastic job at the door to control the crowd!
Eva, Valentina, Jessica, Himanshu (The welcoming team)
Christian (The Photographer)
I would also like to thank Nir and Oded for all their support and help in promoting the party through the banners and emails.
And last but not least, I would like to thank the guests.

I had a great time spinning the records. At the same time, it was great to see so many people dancing and having a good time.

I tried to keep everybody happy and play their requests, but could not play all of them because of the lack of time. Wish, we could go on until 5am like Zurich!

There was a certain cost/commitment attached to this party and we met the commitment. The other money will be used for charity.

Pictures will be online soon.

I am looking forward to see you guys in the near future. Not necessarily at a Bollywood event, but also for a cup of coffee!

Thank you all
Cheers
Ehsaan

It would be very nice (and credible) if you could do what Nir and Oded do after their big summer charity beach parties: show the actual budget of the party, how much is given to charity, and to which charity it was given to.

I do not know you personally, and have no reason to doubt you. But when you just say something like "there were some costs and the rest will be used for charity" is sounds a bit vauge.

Hi Ehsaan,

What can i say.  I'm a newbie here to switzerland (just shy of 2wks) and a newbie to Glocals and after my first event all i can say is i'm addicted!  It was my pleasure volunteering...rather enjoyed the role of shot girl, LOL  :hehe:

Had loads of fun and met some really great people!  The LONG trip all the way from Lutry to the place via public transportation was DEFINATELY worth it!  The most sober fun i've had in a while, LMAO  :D

Your battery died after some time so Christian used my camera for pics...there are many.  I will email them to you tomorrow, promise!

hey Ehsan,

generally, i thought it was a great party, although i didn't stay long (poor old me getting old!). ;)

i really liked the fact that you showed the guys the steps a few at a time and got them practising in stages. i understand it was an on-the-spot decision to get the girl (sorry, didn't catch her name) to show us how to do our part, but as she didn't show us stages, i didn't really understand what i was supposed to do. one of my friends was leaving at about the same time, which meant i left the learning crowd and maybe if i'd stayed, i would have got it eventually, but i just thought that was a shame...

on the whole, though, i expected more traditional Indian music. that's just me, i'm sure, and maybe i should have watched 'Bride and Prejudice' fewer times, but all the time i was there (again, probably not long enough to know any better), it seemed to be mostly 'dance' music, albeit Indian, i was told.

nevertheless, it was a great party. i had fun and people were clearly enjoying themselves immensely. it was great to see girls wearing Indian-style clothing (i'll mention gorgeous Meeta!), and some boys too, and to see the guys doing so well with their newly-learnt dance moves! and yes, it was brilliantly organised and i'm glad you reached your goal and didn't end up out of pocket! i think it's great you're giving whatever's left to charity and that's totally your choice as far as i'm concerned: a lot of energy goes into organising something as big and you would have been in serious trouble if no-one had shown up (not that that was ever likely to happen!).

finally, THANKS FOR ORGANISING THIS!! :D

yes, i think i would agree with Minda on a few things - the girls definitely got no leads from the workshop and after teaching everybody bhangra, the music that followed should've been bhangra too. Also, i think we could've maximised our time if we had hit the high note a little earlier. The ones that came on time and left early actually missed the best part of the party.

Yet those of us who stayed on, had a great time. thanks for playing all our requests and putting together the show. i am sure it was a lot of hard work. so well done and we'll wait to hear about the next one!

i would like to add something here:

I am the person who greeted all of you at the door. I also got a chance to talk with a lot of people and i danced with many people in the club.

The workshop for teaching can be organised and once i have the feedback from you guys we can go for it.

The party saw a lot of people leave the dance floor due to the fact that the Air condition was not working. I guess this was because there were more woman then men so this happened.

LOL

( BUT YES THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE AS PEOPLE WANTED TO DANCE)

Music: A lot of Indians who do understand what music was being played complained about the duration of the song and also not proper mixing. I would like to first thank you for your feedback and nobody is perfect but hopefully in the next Party playing indian music we will take care of this.

My personal opinion about the party: As an Indian I come from a land of rich culture. We are now a country which in a span of just 60 years after our independence has become a superpower in some of the fields like IT and thanks to Bollywood our music and movies are so famous.

Like i have mentioned above there were so many indians but i am sure you should appreciate that Ehsaan took the pains of coming all the way from Zurich to do this.

Nothing is lost and nothing is there in this world which cannot be improved, If you indian guys and girls and aunts and uncles really want this whole world to know about our country our people our culture our strength our hospitality then let us have more interaction on this issue and try and do a party which rocks this whole nation.

I am also surprised that I met so many indian woman who I am sure have lot of spare time as their husbands work for good salaries and they should organise Indian food classes. There are so many people I see on the glocals as well as in the curry club who go out to eat indian food. I am sure you will agree that a home made food is a very different from what you get in the restaurants.

We should have more indian food parties where we all get together and cook food for our friends from all over the world who live in Switzerland. I am sure chicken tikka and curry and dal are not the only things we make in India.

From the fish curry of Bengal to the gajar ka halwa of delhi to the idli, dosa, sambar, utampam from South to Bhel puri from Mumbai we can combine so many things to tell our friends from all over the world that we have so many things to offer even in food.

Lastly I know I have written to much so kindly send me your feedbacks and if i wrote something which is already existing in Geneva( like cooking Indian food) then also let me know.

I just landed in geneva 93 days back so I am still very new.

Hey Himanshu,

ah so it was you that welcomed everybody! and what a warm welcome that was. Well like you said, many things to take care of the next time around. the exciting thing for me is that we are already thinking of the next time around - cant ask for better feedback than that on any party:)

btw, thanks a ton for the pics. dont know if they are uploaded yet. see so many faces that look familiar - hope people will put their names on the pics.

Hi Minda,
I agree, it would have been better if I would have taught the girls as well. But this girl was really enthusiastic and I just did not want to disappoint her.
I understand your expectation about traditional Indian music, but Indian music has a LOT of variety. Especially when it comes to an Indian dance party, the tradional music would be too slow except for some dances like Bhangra.

Next time, I will come prepared with a little bit more organisation.

Thanks
Ehsaan

Hi Maha,
I am in total agreement with both you and Minda. Could have done a better job there, but it was all about an enthusiastic Bollywood dancer. I just did not wanted her to be disappointed.
It was a lot of hard work organising the venue, party and other things remotely. But it all payed off when I saw you guys rocking the dance floor.

Next time would be a better party.

Cheers
Ehsaan

Hi Himanshu,
Thanks a lot for the feedback and thanks a ton for welcoming the guests.
Infact there are schools in Geneva that teach Bollywood dances.
Check out www.bollywood-dance.com

It was a shame that the Aircon was not working. At one point it was like sauna, but we all were helpless. Hopefully this issue will be addressed next time.

As far as playing full songs is concerned, only the songs REQUESTED were being played fully. Those who requested wanted to dance on their favorite tunes. But I think, this was not a big issue. It can be addressed anytime.

I wish you good luck with the Indian cooking lessons. I conduct Indian cooking sessions in Zurich once in a while.

Thanks for the feedback bro!

Cheers
Ehsaan

Sure we will have a party which will give you a real taste of not only the indian bollywood music but much more.

You are right that more participation is required and when i saw the poster for this party I was the first one to send a mail to Ehsaan asking him if he needs any help.

Maha,

Thanks for your feedback and since we are already talking about how to organise a real Indian music party I would like all you guys to send as your feedback and accordingly we want to proceed.

We want your suggestions, ideas, views, gossip, bla bla bla......... all you think which you would expect from an Indian party.

I hope people would give us suggestions!!!!!!

Cheers and smile[/quote]

Ehsan, well done although i have not attended. listen, take it easy buddy: for next time, just suggest that people before coming to dance @ indian style/folklore music actually rent some 2-3 indian movies and watch some chic moves from there ... so they can project those @ your dance floor. Zita & Gita, or any other retro-special movies could be fantastic backgrounders and hints-rich :-))) LOL

Hey guys,

Am thrilled to note that all of us feel so involved in this do. The credit goes to Ehsaan one hundred percent. Justdoit - i think the idea of doing different music an hour or so each in modules is a workable, good solution. so we should really think about it.  Once we decide when we want to have the next party, we should just all get together - i think planning will be half the fun.

all in all, many many thanks to ehsaan for doing it. Improvements can and should happen along the way - but there is no taking away from all the effort that he has put in so that WE can have a good time. Really appreciate your doing that. We are all up for participation - please just ask the next time around.
