A wonderful trip to Basel to see the start of the Carneval (Fasnacht).
The trains from Lausanne and Geneva met in Bienne to arrive at midnight in the City of Basel. Around 1am we were drinking Hot chocolate with Cream and Applepie. At around 2 am we arrived in a cozy disco to discover that the DJ was so impressed by the arrival of GLoL members that the music changed from metal to the rock and beat we liked most. We danced without interruption for one and an half hour.
Then we discovered, rain het stopped and thousands of people in the streets were waiting for the magical moment of 4'o-clock : streetlights out, and the parade moved on the sound of the magic flutes.
See the PICTURES of the creatures we met in the parade !
Last but not least we filled up with soup and Zwiebelkuche, before returning home in "reserved" sleeping wagons.
Thanks Capricorne for this great initiative..... I enjoyed very much being part of it

We had a great time at Carnival in Basel on Sunday night / Monday morning. The dancing was a great way to stay awake until the big event started at 4:00am when the city descended into darkness and the sound of thousands of piccolos and drums filled the streets.
The elaborate masks, costumes, and lanterns that were worn at the parade were amazing. We somehow managed to get a great spot at the parade too, right in the middle of it all.
Thanks Capricorne for organizing such a wonderful trip. I had a blast, it was truly worth no sleep to experience Carnival in Basel (billed as the largest and most elaborate tradition in Switzerland). It was fantastic!
