Just wanted to write a short report about today's ride. After warm-ups 1 and 2, number 3 really became serious.
The Grand St-Bernard pass just re-opened last Thursday. From the images shown on the news, the snow-ploughs were still clearing the recent snowfalls and the temperature forecast was as low as 5°C...
Meeting was set in Bains des P?quis for breakfast at 8.30. Roberta (our model of the day), Andy_G, Theo and I departed from there. We picked up Inspiral and his Honda VFR800 in Nyon and headed toward Martigny where Matterhorn was waiting for us. Andy_G and his Yamaha R1 headed back to Geneva to watch the MotoGP race when we reached Vevey.
Finally made it to Martigny about 1 hour behind schedule.
Filled up our tanks and we were ready to defeat the Grand St-Bernard pass…
It starts with long straights and large curves and finishes with sharp hairpins on steep roads. Not too much traffic, incredible views, snow on the edges, low temperature...acceptable riding conditions. From my feeling, it was a little short. Made it to the top (2473m) in less than an hour... :o(
Short photo session (Model Roberta is presenting a blue and white jacket and some black leather pants today) and we had lunch with some local folkloric music in the background, matching to perfection the “Cro?tes au fromage” and deer steaks (another “premi?re” for Theo).
Back down the valley on the same road but turned right in Sembrancher to catch the “Col des Planches” (1411m). Narrow roads, many pot-holes and gravel. Plenty of sharp turns. Shooting session #2 and group picture.
16.30 and still hungry, for passes, I mean… Instead of taking the regular road toward Martigny again, we decided to go for the Lein pass (1623m) after hesitating a bit. Toward the top, it becomes a dirt trail (Matterhorn and I were in our element with our dual-sports)…still, everybody mastered it with ease. Down to Saxon on delicate roads again and this was it for passes and mountain roads today.
Stopped in Martigny for a drink, tanked up and said goodbye to Matterhorn.
Rode back on lake road again with a little more traffic than earlier. Kinda like that portion between Vevey and Lausanne with the vineyards on a side and the lake on the other… :o) Slowly but surely, we made it back to Geneva slightly over 21.00.
What a great ride!!!
Cheers,
Pikachu aka pass-hunter :o)

I like that. It suits you! LOL!
Thank you soooooo much Ping once again for a really great ride! Even though I have been to two out of three rides so far, it's nice to see both familiar and new faces again :-) I'll try to get a bigger bladder for the next ride, though you did admit at the end of the day that it was a fair 8 hours we rode that day! LOL!
Looking forward to the next one!!
Ciao,
Roberta.

Sounds like it was a great ride, and now the photos are online to prove it.
Just click on the "Pictures" Tab and take a look.

Hard to say, but something between 350 and 400kms. Not too bad...although my butt was a little sore at the end of the day... :o)

I asked this before but am not clear if the reply...(-:
I would LOVE to join you guys, but do not have a big bike. Would anyone agree to take me as a passenger? I will ofcourse pay for gas/food/etc.

Nir and everyone who would like to come as passenger,
I am also keeping up a passenger list, so please do send me your email address to be informed for the next rides. Thanks.
Not many seats available as not all bikes are passenger-friendly (unless you don't mind having your butt mad at you for a couple days...) but we will surely manage to find a seat for you soon...
Cheers,
Pikachu
