The true "Friends" atmosphere was in force last night at Central Perk for the first GOL Open Mic Night, and what an absolutely fantastic night it was. Many thanks to Laurent who provided the P.A., did an unbelievable mix, took pictures, and played as well !
Honestly, I couldn't have dreamed that the night was going to go off that well. Being in competition with Wine and Tapas, Martini Night, and a few other events wasn't easy. At 8:30, hardly anyone was there, spare the musicians and the bar patrons (where there are normally more)....But then the GOL crowd came in force! We had special guest performers such as Xavier and Robin who were brave enough to improv. We had people just show-up, and sign-up (Kevin). Then we had some amazingly talented GOL musicians doing their thang. THANKS TO THEM: Greg, Rod, Les, Gonzolo, Johnny, Laurent, Kevin, our rhythm section Patrick, am I missing anyone?
Highlights:
-Greg's original "What a Stupid Reason Not to Have Sex" (I agree man)
-Rod's Louis-Louis (sorry I was sleeping on that one)..
-Les's "Hey Jude" sing-along
-Gonzolo's Bosonova (such a cool change of pace, gauranteed to score GOL groupies :-) )
-Xavier-Rick "Women Don't Cry" singalong
-Johnny/Robin duet
-Kevin's David Grey cover (sorry that was my favorite)
The true spirit of open mic is getting the crowd into it...Sing-alongs, participating, etc. That was there last night...We appreciated it! We will definately do it again...Central Perk I believe is the perfect venue for this sort of event and we appreciated the kind spirits we had who worked there.

This was certainly one of my favorite GOL activities to date. A very warm and lively GOL crowd was there to support a diversity of talented musicians. Rick did a fantastic job coodinating... not to mention he´s quite an entertainer himself on the microphone. Great night and I´m already looking forward to the next one in a month.

I have to admit, being me a Salsa addict, when yesterday I decided to change my lifestyle and go for the Open Mike ... it was more in the .. Let's cheer for my GOL friends who will be on stage and have a nice time. I wasn't expecting such a COOL and great night.
I was stunned, and surprised by the number of great payer and singer we have on GOL! WOW!!!!! And u guys are BRAVE! Some people were for the first time on stage and were simply too good.
I loved all the songs, all the music, the relaxed atmosphere, the original songs (Kevin's one and another one just made me wanting to Hug people!!) the music, the singalong, the great GOL groupies that shouted with me on all the song we knew ... Hobbes going on Stage (U are BRAVE!!) Robin (finally a girl singing and with such a great voice!!) ...
one word, the night was AWSOME. Can't wait for the next one.

thanks rick and all the other performers, you made my night! just loved all the songs - the sing-a-long ones and the originals - it was a great mix and the best GOL event that i have been to so far!!!! the reason: being an old genevoise of 9 years soon, this was probably the first event which i can say really adds to the geneva scene not only for newcomers who wants to make some friends, but for everyone since to my knowledge such open mike nights are rare in geneva.
anyway, had a great time, looking forward to next month, and quite motivated now to become a singer in......about a thousand years ;)

Terrific evening and great atmosphere. We have some very talented performers among us, I really enjoyed listening (ok, I admit and maybe singing along sometimes) and being with such a great crowd.

WOW! I was hundreds of miles from thinking that GOL had so many talents. When Rick came up with the idea of Open Mike Night I thought this is awesome. When I started to see all the emails going back and forth from people wanting to help I thought that’s the spirit. But when we where finally there singing along, it was an incredible moment, one we hoped would never stop. The energy was just unbelievable. Everyone stayed until the very last song. Everybody was smiling. It just felt like one great family gathering. The Central Perk was the perfect choice, just big enough to fit everyone with a warm atmosphere.
Thanks Rick for making all of this possible. Many thanks to all the musicians who treated us to a moment of exception. And a special thanks to all the happy GOL members who came out in force to support their fellow GOL’ers. I can’t wait for next time.
