Random question.. but how about a weekend in Austria....???
Obviously my `random` answer came back as `off course, I would love to go`.. and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil for such an incredible (and slightly confusing) weekend.
Kate & I set of by train to Zurich, I have to say the journey didn`t get off to the best of starts....with drunk, loud, ice-hockey thugs, sorry, I mean fans boarding our train at Bern. Nether-the-less, we arrived at Zurich, where we spent the night, setting off in the early hours for `Austria` (or so I thought).
We had already spent some 5hrs in the car, and seen some incredible sights of the mountains and Locamo lake. Those of you who know your geography, will have already probably guessed this wasn`t the way to Austria.... not me! We went across the italian border, and as i looked to the right of me, had the most fantastic view of The Med. Tototally baffled by where the hell we were going, Phl proceded to tell us we were taking a `minor` de-tour to The Italian Riveara for lunch (as you do).
We arrived in PortoFino, and went to the Hotel Spendido for lunch. The terrace overlooked a ravishing seascape and lavish private gardens. It was one of the nicest places I have ever visited. We could have easily stayed there all day, but after a long lunch, we finally decided to make a move towards Austria.
A few hours later, the road signs changed back into french, and I noticed signs for Nice,Monaco and cannes. Now, I know I`m not the brightest when it comes to my european geography, but I was pretty sure we were not near Austria!
By this time Kate was also looking extremely confused, and Phil just had a huge smerk across his face. Luckily I trusted we were not being kidnapped.. and even if we were, least it was to go somewhere nice!
We left the motorway at Monico, and proceeded into the centre, Finally, Phil told us this was where we were really staying for the weekend. We were exstatic, this was definately my kind of place (not quite sure why he just didnt say we were going here in the first place) but anyway, we stayed at the Port Palace, where our suite over-looked the million pound yachts in the harbour. phil went to park the car whilst Kate and I tried to figure out what all the buttons did in the rooms... no joke, it took us about 10mins to figure out how to turn the damn shower on!!
We popped a bottle of champagne before heading out for the evening. We walked along the harbour, suprisingly most of the yachts were british...one even had a helicopter on it- others were like those China dolls, having boats inside boats! A few Pina Colada`s later, we walked up to the Casino and sat at a bar, watching the nice cars pass by... my night was made seeing David Colthard.. although I have to say, the mercedes he got into, didn`t impress me (apparenly I`m assured by phil it was a classic).... a classic piece of scrap metal if you ask me!
The next day, we headed through Cannes and stopped in St.Tropez for lunch. Now, here I loved. We counted about 22 ferrarri`s on one street, one which belonged to Nikki Hilton which Phil managed to spot. Sitting in the restaurent, we all enjoyed people spotting. Trinni & Suzanne would have had a field day here- they could base their whole next series of `what not to wear` here. The weather was great and the sea so inviting. We thought about pulling sickies so we could stay one more night, but finally dragged ourselves back to the car for the long drive home. Arriving in Geneva in the evening, we had travelled 1600km in total... in one weekend. pretty imprssive hey! Once again.. cheers phil for a spontanious but fantastic weekend!!!
