Salsa with Paul
Blimey Paul you've got a big crowd now!

After having missed the 1st sessions following the xmas break I was surprised to see so many people at the Tuesday Salsa, Paul must be doing something right.

I can recommend to anyone who feels that they would like to try but haven't plucked up the courage, to come along, especially the guys (we need a few more).

A note to anyone coming .. wear something cool it gets quite warm..

Thanks Paul for a wonderful evening. I had such a great time, I stayed on for the intermediate class and I dont think I did too shabby.
The guys who DO come are very gallant and no one is left out, so I'd like to say thanks to all of you who made sure we all went home with a smile.
Great atmosphere, great instructors and I'll be back!

Thanks a lot,

Great to know the whole night is appreciated, from learning salsa, listening to my corny jokes (just humour me !) mixing with lots of new people and having a chance to let your hair down !

It's a chance to big thank you to the people who make it happen - Yvonne (Chouppie), for being so stylish that she makes me look good, Wendy (Wendlyn), Akli (Capitain) and Cathy for being such a great help in managing the numbers and Joelle for giving us the chance to set up the class in her cafe bar.

Let's keep it going - and I promise to think up funnier jokes for next week !!

Paul

I’d really like to recommend Paul’s class, although, if it gets any more popular, he’ll have to look for a new venue or else give up his day job. :-) though he wouldn’t go far at chf5 a lesson. Its great value (just to cover out of cost expenses like new music etc.) and there is a great atmosphere, partly because Paul is so funny and laid back, but also because he teaches the English way, meaning that you change partners every few minutes so nobody (mainly the girls) is without a partner for very long. It can be so daunting for single women going to a class where there are few men and those that are there have been dragged along by their girlfriends or wives, who glare at you if you even look over in their direction. This is a really great class, both the teachers are great (you’ll be dancing in no time, even if you’ve never danced a step), the other people there are very friendly, the venue is welcoming (if hot) and the manager or owner charming. The prices are also very good and the food is delicious. Great Idea Paul. Thank you and all your helpers for making it possible.

the Calle Luna Cafe Bar were a smokefree place at least on Tuesday...Paul, can you request it to be smoke free at least on Tuesday?

Canton of Geneva in Switzerland in holding a vote on public smoke-free places (Based on a very first International Health Treaty called Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Article 8: Protection "people" from exposure to tobacco smoke) on the 24th February.

Switzerland is a federation hence plans to go smoke-free are not national but remain the responsibility of the local governments. 4 other cantons have already gone smoke-free in 2007.

GLocals activities can be more progressive on this issue than this country which is far behind compared to many countries where Glocalers are from like UK, Italy, France, Germany, Nordic countries etc. They have mostly gone total smoke free in all public places. Empirical studies have shown that health status of employees in hospitality have been largely improved. Some public health experts claim that this policy may be the single most effective policy in saving millions of lives(who would have died due to smoking including secondhand smoke). Salsa is refreshing and fun especially when only breathing with fresh air...

Hi Wayne,

As a non-smoker that would be my dream too. I have thought about asking but as the cafe bar owners also smoke, and it's not illegal, it's a tricky one. I can ask of course.

On the whole the venue is just about perfect so if the answer is 'no' then I'm prepared to accept that bearing in mind that most people who go don't smoke so it's a much better than most cafe bars. It took a long time to find such a place and feedback indicates that everything else seems to be going well. I've no intention of trying to find another, given that it has taken so much effort to get this all up and running in the first place.

I don't think is the platform for a 'non-smoking' campaign. So we might just have to accept the current situation and enjoy the great atmosphere.
