Serial Forum Posters Night Out
Last night was a night where many of the stars collided.  It was just great to FINALLY meet many of the common forum posters face to face.

So... what happens? you say when you get a room full of serial forum posters together? Well I certainly can't put down some things on here that were said, but I couldn't stop :laugh:ing all night long.

I even saw some folks drop in that I was not expecting, so that was a great surprise!

Verbier, sooo glad to finally meet you! Thanks for coming all the way out from the other side of the lake.
Bedrock, well what can I say.. but that you DO exist. ("O")  Thank you and Mrs. Bedrock for coming out with Junior. He is our future member for sure!
Bustan, was great to see you after many silent months.  Hope you come back online more often, now that you've met some of the newer folks and catching up on the latest Forum topics.
Swiss, Jasper, Tinkie, the marathon queen & fan clubs, this event wouldn't be serial without you two!
Divagirl, we now know that you really DO read everything!  I can always count on you to get a summary update on what goes on :)
Haeger, the smoking-ban guru, thank goodness we picked a resto that was relatively smoke-free!
Katja, Jon, Giovanni, great to see you join us at the gallery and for you to join us for dinner.
And of course Hayes & Charlotta, without you two organizing the Art Gallery event, I may not have been inspired to have thought of pulling this event together.  I do hope you've raise some bit for your charity. (P.S. Hayes.. I'm a bit worried for you about this Sunday. Weather does not look great for your marathon of silliness!)
The one no-show was unfortunate... T_D, what happened? Hope you didn't get lured into or curious to step foot into one of those bars in Paquis, or as I found out, there are some exclusive ones in downtown Eux Vive.

Isa... it's a shame you were confined.. as it would have been so much fun to put in the mix pot of things.

and of course on my way home from the post dinner apero at the smokey Cafe Presse, I recognized Chigrela zooming on her bike heading my way in the dark. How I recognized her was amazing!  But mind you that's not her real name, but the fact the her username came up first in my mind and for me to quickly search in my tipsy condition for her real name was a challenge. But as a member of last week's dinner, she and I had a quick chat in the middle of the road.  and that folks, is Geneva for you, as I celebrate the end of my 2nd year in Geneva today! :D

Happy Halloween. hope to see many of you join the pubcrawl tonight... and oh, please keep this thread clean, or at least keep it cryptic :)

Dear Yumi, dear fellow participants…

Wow,  what a super GREAT cool night out – really enjoyed meeting all of YOU.;):)

Excellent  company, good food, and sooo much laughter & fun… gosh, I’m getting worried, my socializing days are counted, I have to get “my act” together for the 100km marathon  in Mongolia.

Many thanks  Yumi, for getting us all together, wishing all of you a fantastic weekend. :)

Dear All,
Thanks for the great evening last night.  Had more alcohol than I thought I had.  Today, I look more like a washed-out divagirl :D
It was really great to meet so many of you.
Charlotta/Hayes, if it weren't for you, this never would have happened. Thank you...
Bedrock..I found 4 different songs....the first line for each are in different colours.  I'm afraid, the rest of the lyrics would be censored here :w00t:
song #1   You need to make it....:D
song #2   Just make the bed rock....:w00t:
song #3  Way back in time, In a land of tattered clothes, Emerges a power, That only Fred knows...:hehe:
song #4  you've been kissing bedrock i can tell ...;)

Yumi/Tinki/Verbier-i/Busta-Ti/Swiss-i/Katia-i/Gio-i and anyone I've missed... it was really nice to share more moments together...

Happy Hallowe'en everyone....may your night be filled with witches, ghosts and goblins!
Be afraid, be very afraid :-)

Cheers!

YO!

I was a bit sceptical about the combination of the two events. You know, FGM (by which I really mean anti-FGM) fundraising and people that frequently post on some message board are pretty far from connected. The Glocals core at one end of the table, smoothing through a semi forum-active middle section, to the artists at the far end. I don't think they had much of a clue what was going on... Of course it brought more people to the exhibition and that's an inarguable Good Thing, so thanks for that YouMeCo. I would just like to stress the fact that that exhibition was a lot of work for some people, and it's important.

Staying with that topic, I don't think I should be receiving very much credit for it. Charlotta did everyhing. All I did was tape up a few posters and post an activity for the previous week's vernissage. Really, I was more on the take. Free wine; free snacks; hob-nobbing in galleries and pretending I know what I'm on about; this is my element.

I turned up at the exhibition at about 18:30. Since I knew we would be going to a restaurant, naturally I had had no food and was pretty close to starving by the time I arrived. I then proceeded to drink vernissage wine for the following 2.5 hours. Thus, unless you are Charlotta, Katja, Chrigela, gkellum or Megg, I was probably a bit done-for by the time I met you. If you're bedrock, then after the dinner, I was borderline slaughtered by the time I met you.

Tony_d: WTF was that about? I said positive things about a Republican for you. A Rep.ub.lic.an! The least you could have was come to remind me that my words will be immortalised in Google searches for, well, for as long as it matters.

The restaurant was pretty smoke-free, that's true. Haegar's reputation precedes him. Or, we were about 25 people in a room with the capacity for, well, about 25 people. One way to organise smoke-free events, I suppose, is to book out the entire place. I guess some of the big organisers are doing that already. Cafe de la Presse was pretty smokey in one corner, but that wasn't so bad, no.

I *will* find the time to talk to SWISS, Verbier, Tinkie, divagirl, etc. properly... chatting to you folk for 30 seconds is a bit frustrating... Thanks everyone for coming. It was big fun.

Don't worry, I came with low expectations.

Whoah there, Seneca! I'm not saying that you shouldn't rank meeting me alongside the birth of your child, merely stating that it would have been somewhat foolish to get in a car with me.

So sorry I didnt show up but i dint know where it was!!!

phone number was not fake!!! 079-527-8357

Tony D is the name of a Canadian blues singer and my real name is Ayman (originally Egyptian)

Sincere appologies, and would make sure not to miss an event again ever !

Could I dare ask for forgiveness? :)

:) Well, i remember that you were not sure about the thai restaurant and some comfirmations would follow!

But I have to admit that i didnt get the chance to get on the portal again. I am so so so sorry. It would have been really my pleasure.

I am willing to take any punishment you would suggest. :)

Drinks are on me next time (with the exclusion of girlies bars of course!)

Hi Tony,

Well, since you mentioned it and out of curiosity, do you own a dog?

:errm: Diva, where are you getting at on this one? but if it's what i think you're thinking, I want to co-rent that dog also!

I would like to propose for the next event, something where others can some of the folks we 'see' here on the forum. Kinda like a public show display.

Tony_D... as for your redemption, I think Hayes still has some time slot in his 'Entertain Hayes" day of outing tomorrow. I'm sure he'd be happy to fit you in, and then make sure to let us know where and what you plan to do. :P

Exxxx-cuse me? You make it sound like Entertain Hayes would be some kind of punishment. Indeed there are not any slots left... look who we're talking about here! I would say he has to wait for Entertaining Hayes II but I suspect he and Tinkie have some kind of plan on the boiler. He may be the only person to be banned.

I opened the doors to hell !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

I am still not sure i am getting the dog punishment idea but I feel like I am not going to like it ...

Yes i could have called and asked but i guess I was afraid to be imposing and got a bit shy about it. So , please dont consider it as a deliberate act to get anyone angry ...

Tinkie, you are right, but I didnt even know that I had a place reserved and confirmed. I thought there will be a follow up. I totally understand that from your perspective, after all the efforts you do in organising , there is nothing worse than a no show!

In case someone is curious off the exact disucssion:

hay man! funny enough i was JUST thinking of wrting to you and the other DJ_sym and some others recently posting.
of COURSE you can join us. you just have to give me your phone number so i can hunt you down in case you don't show up (hahaha)
also in case there's last minute changes to the location where we're going.
the folks organizing the gallery beforehand are wishywashy in terms of what where they want to go for dinner and it's really annoying me. i don't mind either way but i dont' want to be eating so late in the evening, as i have so many people coming and some coming in from far away.
but definitely READ THE ACTIVTY POST before you head out, or at least the day of the event if you can for last minute changes. but the resto that is orginally planned (Thai) is nothing 'great' i have to say :( but the company that you'd be surrounded by WILL BE so wil make up for any deficiencies :)

cheers

Perhaps the reason why the folks who arranged the exhibition thought that organising their exhibition and raising money for charity took priority over worrying about when and where certain glocalers want to eat... especially since it wasn't their choice to change the direction of their dinner from being an 'artists united against fgm' dinner to being a 'serial posters' dinner.... which seriously has very little to do with female genital mutilation or art. I think we can conclude that it would have been easier and less confusing for everyone if there hadn't been two different posts with different themes for the same dinner.

Thanks to everyone that came to the exhibition btw (I know that there were a lot of glocals members there that didn't come to the dinner afterwards), we really appreciate your support. Especially thanks to those who bought postcards, t-shirts etc in order to help Gamcotrap with their important work to stop FGM in Gambia.

the folks organizing the gallery beforehand are wishywashy in terms of what where they want to go for dinner and it's really annoying me. i don't mind either way but i dont' want to be eating so late in the evening, as i have so many people coming and some coming in from far away.
but definitely READ THE ACTIVTY POST before you head out, or at least the day of the event if you can for last minute changes. but the resto that is orginally planned (Thai) is nothing 'great' i have to say :( but the company that you'd be surrounded by WILL BE so wil make up for any deficiencies :)

cheers"

I agree with YouMeCo.

One does not publish anything that is sent via a PM without the permission of the person who sent it.

This a basic common sense and "politisse".

Unfortunate.:w00t:

My spelling is off. It should be "politesse". Or in English we would say common sense.

 wow... i seem to have scared off 2 people now in 2 wks. First Whovian after inviting him to this Forum Posters night out, and now Tony_D all because we wanted him to come and yet due to miscommunication, didn't meet up.:crying:

Cleary the intention was not to hurt his feelings.  The purpose of Glocals is to meet people out and about and not to have an online conversation when you don't know the context of the person behind the words.  I was going to suggest that before we have another casualty, that Tony meet some of us and then he'd know what silly characters we really are

Many of us have a go on the forum because know each other through events and simply bump into each other out in town.  (ok at least I do) and so you would know the tone of 'sarcasm' :)

I hope Tony's friends will make him reconsider coming back. maybe i should've put more :):D ;):w00t::hehe:

He didnt show up! so what! He appologised! Get over it already and dont get your friends to call him impolite with no manners!!!

As Tinkie said, this has really got out of hand, I don't think that anyone was picking on anybody, so information got screwed up, some people were not happy, and it was definately not intended for him to leave. Some people are overly sensitive, and I may sound cold and heartless by saying this, but, it's their problem! Maybe some people were not just in commenting on Tony the way they did, and this has been stated, but I also see that maybe tony was not just in leaving the way he did. I find it is a regrettable attitude that when faced with a little disgruntlement, and a little opposition (as it was just a handful of people, and not the whole Glocals site) that people will decide to leave in a way that seems childish. On the other hand it is true that when writing on forums, where we cannot see the body language, facial expressions and hear the tone of voice we have to be conscious on how our comments can be misinterpreted. That said, we cannot be held responsible for those that will over react due to an overly sensitive nature.

Let us all learn to communicate better.

I think now we see why we have serial posters and only a few brave souls who'll post on the forums. Soon it'll be the only those in this thread who'll appear anywhere.. Luckily most of us "Veterans" have met each other and know the tone of the message and also how they react in person, unfortunately we don't have that luxury with everyone, especially those new to Glocals

Few people act in a manner to purposely upset others, but we understand that we all have a different perspective. I imagine this will be dissected and can be construed as criticism.

Hope to see more varied posts soon...

Also if you read the words I used and the grammar in which they were expressed, you'll see I was not definitive as in stating a judgement, but vague and objective in saying how things appeared not how things truly are.

See what I mean about 'serial forum'? :alien: over 50 postings on much a do about nothing; albeit the key reason bringing us together was to support the works of art for charity.

Ok.. I will organize the next drinks out with the SFPosters but will be after my November Birthday Drinks.  and don't worry, you don't even have to RSVP so you don't have to stress about being a no-show :D

(note my voice of sarcasm ^_^;) yes.. the more you post, the better you'll be at it!  Look at me, I post more than Tinkie these days and I rarely posted in the beginning. and I post more now that there's 3x's more people on glocals.

Ok, I won't organize anything large group events, but if you can get into central town, we can have lunch with just a few serial poster, and gradually step up the numbers.  You just tell me when, but make it quick, as I keep telling friends I'm not around here for much longer :(

Welcome.. now we need to get Tony_D back and my life will be -appi again.

Tinkie... Britabroad and I are seriously forming a support group on trying to keep away from this site, but clearly he's doing much better than I am, or at least he's keeping quiet but still hovering about. We've had serious discussions on a 10step program.

This site should come with an additional warning say:

:exclamation: This site may be addicting. Sign up at your own risk. :exclamation:

Can we get a class action suite for Glocals ruining your nights, weekends, loss of sleep, draining of funds from going out to too many activities? The infamous "McDonalds lawsuit", or the class action suite by smokers against the tobacco industry comes to mind :Whistling:

I think that this thread has made it very clear that we are all members of this forum for different reasons, and that glocals plays a different part in our lives.

I also think that when being part of a social network like glocals starts to create problems for you rather than making your life easier, there is something that has gone a bit wrong, and perhaps this would be a good time for everyone involved to start reflecting on what that might be.
