Twice monthy guitar playes group
I feel a little akward because I am starting a review of an event I organized, but I just wanted to make sure that I let it be known how thankful I am for what happened at the event.  So thank you to everyone that was involved. Austin and Shawn and the others that helped set up the space. Hobbes for being my teaching partner during the lessons (your help was a big deal to me thank you) Dan Hunter, Eduardo, Yann (and his girlfriend who came late but really.. wow it was great to listen to them play) Miriam, Patrick and everyone one who came to learn, listen, sing, play, and participate in a wonderful evening based around sharing music.

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR MAKING THE FIRST NIGHT SUCH A SUCCESS

This event will take place on the first and third Fridays of the month.

Jessica Hope is a person worth going to see sing and accomponied by Yann and Dan it was really special.  the best part of all this was it was the first of many nights to come.

I am sorry I did not use your name in the original post.  We look forward to seeing and hearing more from you next time.

There was a little, and quite disappointing to be honest, show up ratio on Friday. I mean, for the number of people we were, we could have solved the location issue long time ago, while it had to be postponed several times before.

But, that being said, as you said, that evening was just a start. I'd even like to say, a spark. Given the quality of your teaching, the motivation of the learners and the fun all the players had during the jam, the fire could become a really big thing in no time. And I can already feel it's moving behind the curtains, people lending guitars to each others, discussing extra meetings etc. Time will tell, but I'm happy to say, whatever happens next, that I attended the first ever Glocal twice monthly guitar workshop.

Thank you Tony for all the efforts you have made to make this night happen (and I know it took you more than many would assume). Thank you also to Dan for his very kind way to give technical tips and forgive my beginner's inability to play a 12 bar blues consistently or to pick the proper pentatonic scale

Last but not least, big thanks to Miriam for her humor, open mind, and above all, positive attitude. Suffering with no apparent signs of tiredness my endless excited talk about how great plying the guitar is, she helped me remember how true this fact is: playing the guitar is great! In a couples of months only, you can start enjoying playing and singing most of your favorite songs, and that is cool. :w00t:

To sum it up, Berlin has provided the fireplace. Everyone has contributed with some wood (on a metaphoric or realist point of view, guitars passing around from hands to hands). Tony has thrown the spark and Miriam blew on embers I had in me. This is what one calls a successful around the fire guitar gathering! :P

there has been quite a bit of discussions on other forums on dealing with no shows. Perhaps it was just too cold to be hauling one's guitar around? For the next activity you might post your ideas for the no shows, it's a bit of a let down when you're expecting larger numbers. The location requires only a 5 fr. participation fee, no minimum for this type of open glocals activity. I've just resolved to have no RSVP for my activities, but they're different from guitar workshop.

Seperately, would you guys be interested in some percussion or wind instruments to accompany the next session, after the lesson is done? I know a couple musicians in Les Grottes who could be interested in accompanying the guitar jam later in the evening.

Hi Berlin,

Thank you for the insight and the comments.  On my part there is no problems with no Shows, as my focus will be on those who show up.  Teaching guitar and learning together brings us together.  Looking forward to the next one.

Personally I would like to have percussion at the Jam.  I am not sure if it would be a problem or not for the newer players.  It really depends on the people playing percussion.  Is there a way I could meet with them pervious to the night?

Thank you again for your feedback and for the location.

See you on the 21st.
