4days in Milan-what to do??? :)

hey everybody!

I am going to spend 4 days in Milan, any suggestion what to do, where to eat?

of course I know the must-see sights of the city, but maybe you can tell me about some secret places which are hidden in a small street but they are worth to visit!

I would also appreciate any recommondation regarding good restaurants/bars (which are not super expensive..)

thanks in advance!

cheers,

Kati

Hi Kati,

I love Milan and have been there tons of times.

Favorite restaurant there is Don Lisander by La Scala. So good!

Where are you staying?

Best,

Laura Anne

Visit the “last supper”, from Leonardo, is a must! and really nice, you have to book in advance;

Castello sforzesco is really beautiful and in the city center, from there walk into via Dante up to piazza Duomo, visit the Duomo, is really nice, than looking at Duomo on your right you have  a new great museum: “Museo del 900”, I recommend it.

This is also the area for shopping, everything you want is there! Price much lower than Geneva, you can get crazy there! J

If you prefer modern art go to “la Triennale” you can also get a drink there!

Good food? Go to the last flour at “la Rinascente” beautiful view of the Duomo spires and nice choice of food and vine, obviously!

Nice cozy dinner: got o “al sodo” not too expensive and really nice! For fantastic risotto alla Milanese go to “Trattoria Milanese* also the area is really nice to visit, still around the Duomo but in a cozy and not famous little area!

For a fancy happy hour (very typical in Milan from 6.30 to 8.30 generally) go to Diana Majestic in Porta Venezia, but if you want the best cocktail in the city go to the “Nottingham Forrest” and get lost in their incredible list!

And visit the “Navigli” is really beautiful and romantic area, there you will have be embarrass of the choice, full of very nice restaurant, bars, vinery, ethnical food, nice shops, even vinyl …

OK I think is OK for 4 days, by now!!! Enjoy!

Yes, indeed, if you are serious about 'The last supper' from Leonardo, you can find it in the Dominican convent 'Santa Maria delle grazie', which is really worth visiting, it is a UNESCO World heritage site.

If you follow the link, it will give you an accurate location:

I forgot, this link could be used to book for visiting the 'Cenacolo Vinciano' (da Vinci's Last Supper):

then Kati, if you prefer, here there is a virtual tour of Leonardo's Last supper where at the same time you listen to Gregorian chant (use the arrows to find the painting on the wall):

thanks Laura Anne for your tip!

about the accomodation, I found a small attic studio in the 'Via Conca del Naviglio', it has a nice view over the Duomo and the city, as far as I saw it is not too far from the center and the traim is 4-5 minute walk, but anyway we are planning to spend there only the sleeping time :)

Cheers,

Kati

My 2 cents (I live in Milano, although I'm currently touring Baden Wurttemberg):

hidden museum: Galleria d'Italia. It's new, it's near La Scala, it has a rich collection of Canova sculptures as well as paintings from '800, it's inside two marvellous palaces. Best of all, it's free and the audioguide is free as well.

hidden restaurant: Sabbioneda, near Lima. It's insanely cheap and insanely good. Only drawback: the bathroom is in the courtyard and it's cold.

hidden aperitivo: Colonial Fashion Cafe, near S.Ambrogio. Together with your drink you have a rich buffet, with the choice of a warm dish.

If you like classical music, hunting for an opera ticket is not an impossible mission, if you go to the ticket office at noon (even at 6 pm is usually quite feasible)

For a morning or afternoon trip out of Milano, try Vigevano (where the dukes of Milano lived, it has one of the prettiest squares in Italy) or Certosa di Pavia (where the dukes have their tomb)

For a day trip, Liguria can be quite beautiful, especially if you like hiking. And if you drop by on a weekend, give us a shout! (we like to organize hikes on liguriah.wordpress.com )

 Have fun!
