Alone for Christmas

Never thought this would happen to me but I am going to be by myself for Christmas this year - no family, no friends.  The mere thought of it makes me tearful.  So, I want to take a 4 day getaway trip outside of GVA next weekend to enjoy the festivities.  As you can imagine, flights anywhere within Europe are through the roof.  Anyone have suggestions for good places to go for cheap?  Where to stay? What to do? 


Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Go skiing.....  party atmosphere every day.... if you dont ski, learn... at least then you'll finish xmas with a result and it wont be a waste...  happy hols...

Its not nice to be alone at Xmas, thats why ive organised a Christmas dinner, at my home for everyone who is alone. So far theres about 25 people coming and even some coming from Geneve. So if you get stuck and dont want to be alone then come and join us in Zurich. Theres spare rooms available if you want to stay overnight. Just bring a sleeping bag. See xmas day events in the Zurich region for details :-)

not sure flying anywhere is a good idea...mainly because the flights are all being delay on plus side you wont be on your own


i had new years on my own last year but went away to small hotel meet some folks there and celebrated new years with them.


this year my son is coming over assuming that his flight actually leaves today, was cancelled yesterday
