Beach vacation around Singapour area/Thailand

Hi Glocalers,

In January I'll have to go to Singapour for my work. I plan to take a week of beach holiday while in the area. I'm hesitating between simply taking the ferry to Bintan, or flying somewhere to Thailand.

If you know the area, I would welcome your advices for the best places to go (direct flights from singapour only, I don't want to travel too much, but just enjoy a relaxing few days).

Thanks a bunch,

Did

Hi Did,

I'm from Singapore and I might be able to provide you some information!

If you are looking for a beach holiday, you could check Bali, Indonesia. They have great beaches there and very relaxing. If you don't mind a slightly longer flight, you could go Australia. Budget airline provides direct plane to Australia, depending where your destination is. Other than that, check with travel agencies for islands in Malaysia. There might be some islands available, not sure though as it's monsoon period; most beaches are closed!

I'm not sure about Thailand, most people would go to Phuket but can be costly depending on your budget. You might want to think carefully as it's the monsoon period. Lots of raining days!

I hope you have a nice holiday!

Thanks for your answer Phoebe,

But I'm surprised about the monsoon period. At least for Thailand, all the guides I checked are saying it stops around November.  December-Feb being the best period to go to the beach as it's the dry period (I'll be there in January).

Cheers,

Didier

I'm not sure about Thailand but in M'sia, lots of islands are closing till march-april. So u might want to check it out. Besides, Jan should be the end of monsoon period but there will still be some rainy days.
