Hi Tsatsa,



I spent a short week in Sicily some years ago and it was wonderful. I did the same thing like you, we had a rented car and drove around. Now, just a few hints and things we did during our trip:



- don't take a to large car, you will have problems in really small vilages if you want to explore everytihng.

- we avoided the big cities like Palermo and Catania because they are really large and it takes a while until you get oriented. We rather spent some quality time in smaller places.

- when flying back, you may want to spend your last night close to the airport on the sea. Really difficult. There are no hotels near. Stay in Palermo.

- As I said we rather went to smaller places. Amongst others I can recommend SIRACUSA, a really lovely place on the east coast. Don't miss NOLI and the few small villages in the area of the earthquake.

- Don't miss MONREALE close to Palermo. It's a really crowded, very lively place. Just how you would imagine Siciliy to be. We made a dent on our car there....

- TRAPANI on the west coast is a secluded hill top like vilage. Very laid back. The mountain roads offer you an excellent view of the whole region.

- One of the main attractions are the roman temples. You will eagerly run after them in the beginning, but get slightly fed up becede there are to many of them. But don't miss one which is completely preseverd apart from the roof. I don't remeber where but I can look it up if you want. There are some excellent mosaics in the centre of the island as well as one of the best restaurants. Again I would have to look it up in case...



Concerning the places to stay I can't give you any tips at all. We just stayed where it was possible and convenient.

The temple is the one of Segesta, which finds itself between Trapani and Palermo, easily reachable through the highway. It is very beautifuk and impressive, as it stands alone fully preserved and complete in the mid of the countryside.

Claudia, Andrej, big thanks for your replies.

i'll arrive in Catania and return from there, but I hope to visit Palermo and think that

maybe i should stop out of Palermo and spend the day without car. Some cities around Palermo look interesting ! I will go with my own GPS so i hope i won't be lost cause i'll be alone ;-))

 i also plan too to visit Siracusa....thanks God there will be a "siracusan" friend that will be the guide there ! but all tips out of there are very welcome.
