Calling all Irish people! help on County Kerry

Dear Irish people,

We are planning one week in County Kerry and we are hesitating between staying in the Waterville area or in the Glenbeigh area. Which would you recommend? We are planning to do the Ring of Keryy, visit Bantry house, and see the Dingle Peninsula.

Hopefully you can help us decide.

Thanks

Mady

Glenbeigh, roads aren't great in Kerry. Waterville is fine for a day trip but why add 50mins to your trips to Dingle, Tralee and Kilarney. Dingle and a trip out to the Blasket islands could even be two days - make sure to go right out to the tip, the roads there are hewn out of the cliff face and were made by hand during the famine as part of the "work houses". Very much weather dependant, pick a good day so that you can take the ferry out to the islands - Have fun!

Thank you both.

Charlie, sorry you are right, Bantry is in Co. Cork indeed, but since it's not too far from the Ring of Kerry, we wanted to include it in our visits.

Thanks for the blog, it looks good.

Ciara, thanks for the info about the roads, this is exactly the kind of tips we are grateful for :-)

Take the route from Killarney over the mountains to Glengarrif and on to Bantry if you can. Some of the most stunning views in the south on that road. Driving through 100 yr old tunnels in the rock face and emerge to see a panorama of Bantry bay. Stay in the Eccles hotel Glengarrif for old world charm.
