dear Glocallers,
I'd very much appreciate some advice from anyone who's managed to achieve the feat of getting a bike to Paris (and back) from Geneva on the TGV - without a cycle reservation.
Having bought a ticket on tgv-europe.ch (incidentally actually very good for buying tickets if you don't need to take a bike) I now find out I can't buy a reservation separately. The best advice I've had so far (from Rail Europe) is to turn up on the day and see if there's a space in the bike compartment. Of course this isn't much use, because if there isn't, i'm stuck (I'm going on a cycling holiday). And it would be worse still if there isn't space on the way back as I'd have to leave my bike in Paris!
I hear you can take the bike on as hand luggage if you get it small enough. The problem is, my bike is a touring bike with a luggage rack etc. Has anyone got experience of how easy it is to have a big bike permitted on a TGV as hand luggage?
thanks!
Matthew

If you dismantle the bike, it will fit in a bike (transport) bag (most likely) and it should be able to go as "hand luggage".
As far as I understand it, the hand-luggage will not be left behind, just go into the luggage-compartment if it's too large.
Other than that, you could just ride from Paris to Geneva on the bike.
It's just below 500 km and should be doable in a week (or less).
