The beaches are nice.
Gran Canaria is an unusual island... has different climates and landscapes even though it is relatively small (mimics some islands in the pacific). North is colder and rainy, south is warmer, drier and sunny.
For beaches, go to the south and perhaps the eastern parts of the island. The east also has some cave restaurants. Some beaches to consider - Maspalomas, Mogan, Las Canteras, La Aldea and others.
Need more info. Contact the local govt's tourism office
