Is one week to short to visit it? When is the best month/ period to go?
All recommendations are welcomed!

celeste, Iceland is the (pardon the pun!) coolest place I've ever been! I went there in 1996 on a whim and it was just fantastic. I went there for 10 days, and it didn't seem too long, but I'm sure that a week is good, too.
I went in March. The people there said "this time last year, the snow was THIS high and people were stranded in their homes for a week." But when we were there, it was quite reasonable. Lots of sun, snow but not too much. But that was 15 years ago. Not sure if/what global warming has done.....
If you get me started, I'll just go on and on and on about Iceland. Maybe we can meet for a drink and I can just gush about Iceland.
Volcanos, Geysers, Bláa lónið (Blue Lagoon), glaciers, Vestmannaey Jar (island), Puffins, Northern Lights, Pub Crawls, Hot Tubs, and and and......
hey, i might come with you.....

Hey!!! Thanks for your response, you are a expert and a fan
of iceland as i see!
I am getting eager to go there when i am reading your comments!!!
I read anything regarding this country yet as I am shared between going in Iceland or / and New Zealand this year, would love to do both if possible, time is short, not enough holidays given in Switzerland to explore everywhere ...
But don't hesitate to go ahead and tell me more about this fascinating country !

Hey!
I ve been to Iceland June last year.
Pretty cheap flights with Airberlin from Düsseldorf to Rejkyavik. I purchased them already in January and it was the cheapest I could get.
The best time for me is summer, June-August has good weather, few rain, sunny long days. It will never be dark outside during the night!
Well, one week is enough if you dont go deeper into the glacier zone, you can visit a lot during one week : golden Circle, Akureyri, Westmen islands, etc...
I used Couchsurfing and it was great! Icelandic people are very welcoming, I would highly recommend it. You you want, I can give you some recommendations for Couchsurfing people in the capital.
If you need some more information, feel free to ask!
Cheers,
Evgenia

Hey!
Thanks for this precious info!!! I was thinking that summer time is the best too, especially as i am sensitive to the very cold weather :)
I am happy to know that 1 week can be enough to have a little idea of the country for the first time...
I know Couchsurfing, I used it during my trip in Australia too, that's a nice way to know inhabitants!!!
Thanks for the info, i will come back to you probably when my plan will be more clear regarding the trip :)
Cheers

Hey there people!
Iceland is definitely worth a visit. :-) I would recommend end of June. 21st of June for instance is the longest day where the sun does not set. A midnight sailing in the north around the islands there, observing the vast bird-life is fantastic. River rafting in the glacier rivers, a trip to the West Fjords, or the East Fjords. If you are interested in outdoor activities, there is a lot if interesting things to do. Heli-skiing on glaciers, jeep trips over the glaciers, hiking, snow-mobile trips etc. Finally a weekend in Reykjavik, if you are interested in some good, and different, night life.
Góða skemmtun! ;-)

Great thanks for the advise!!! I guess that the 21st June should be great to see!!! It seems to be so much to do there, maybe one week is a bit rush... The nature should be just amazing to explore!!! Must figure pros and cons...:)

hey
I went a few years ago, flew direct from basel. amazing place, such strange landscape and very diverse. In a week i traveled up the east, onto the western fjords and to the nothern town and of course back to rekyavic.
A week was good time, i saw a lot did a bit of horse riding, beleive it or not diving is very good there, walking, whale watching, skido blah blah blah.
You have to hire a car tho, and know how to change a tire! believe me its worth brushing up on and checking you can un do the wheel nuts while in a city. i had 3 tires and a gear box go on me and my gf, we were driving a 4x4!
watch the speed limits as there strict and heavy fines, even in the remotest of areas. it was actually june when i was there, the longest day, basicly 24 hours of sunlight!
