Hello,

Milan is cool as far as big cities go. I've heard that Torino is really cool with lots of mountains and what not. When were you thinking of going and how are you getting there? I am planning to go Next weekend/Week, but would love to share some travel costs if you're interested.

Cheers,

Lauren

Hello,

why the big cities? I don't like Milano, Torino or Genova. And I am Italian. Why don't you go instead to the Cinque Terre in Liguria (near La Spezia)? Or Tuscany? The countryside there is wonderful. Siena is among my favourite cities.

Definitely Cinqueterre and Tuscany :) but if you like big cities, then Rome or Florence (which happens to be in Tuscany) are great. You can go to Florence by the night train. You arrive at 7 in the morning. If instead you decide to go to Rome, you arrive around 9. Enjoy your trip!

I have lived in Italy for 7 years, and going to be in Milano for exams, but I'll instead go to Venezia and hang out there in between! I've been there 5times already every time misterious.

Hi Thierry,

I agree with most of the ppl that replied. I would not go to the big cities if you have a limited time like a weekend. It will take you half a day to get into the city if you travelling by car or plane, then another to find your hotel and the city centre. Then you'll realize that there is so much to see. You'll start to run after things to get as much as possible....

A real nono. Especially in Italy where the whole slow food is coming from.

Sure, everybody is biased, so am I. But, I have been travelling around in northern and middle Italy for years, especially off season. My choice would be small to mid-sized towns. They usually offer you much more charm and less tourists. You can really enjoy what you're doing. And ppl are ususalusuallyl friendlier in the bigger towns.

OK. I would recommend following things, close to the Swiss boder:

Alba,

Asti,

Acqui Terme,

Cuneo,

And deeper in the south:

Arezzo,

Orvieto,

Sestri Levante.

Sestri Levante,

Have fun.

If you need further information let me know.
