Mountain walks
Spring is in the air, the sap is rising and I'm thinking of the which Alpine walks to do this summer.

I'm planning on doing the Tour de Muverans (4-day walk in the Valais, near Bex) in July.

Anyone done it ??

Any advice ??

Which are the better refugees ???

Also, what is the Tour de Mont Blanc like in July - is it way too crowded ??

And - where have you seen the biggest fattest marmots ???

cheers
John

Hello,

I can't tell you about the Muveran as I didn't do it, but I like hiking a lot ,so I can share a little experience.
The Tour du Mont-Blanc is a too famous tour, usually crowded in summer, but there are plenty other tours you can do.
For example if you want to stay close from Geneva, you can go on the GR5. It is a very long treck that goes down to Nice (on the Mediterranean sea) through the Alps. But you can do parts of it, for one or two weeks as you want. It is very beautiful, I loved it.
If you feel like goint a little further away, there are millions of tours very easy to do in France : just go to a Payot bookshop and ask for the GR guides (GR means grande radonn?e). All France is maped with trecks called the GR. The guides are wery well done, you have the directions, places to sleep, transports, everything you need. Then you get a map, and that' s it. The GRguides are also useful because some tours are getting famous, so in the summer you need to make resevation for the night in advance (you have all the phone numbers in the GRbooks). All the walks I did on these GRs were great.
If you have a language problem you can ask me for help. I think the GR5 is famous enough for you to find english guides. I met english people on this tour, they had engligh guides.

If you want a hiking partner for some sundays this spring, you can contact me. I do not have a car so I depend on people that have one to go for walks, but I know some of the country around.

Have fun
