I am off to Prague for a few days and although I'll be working during the day I would quite like to head out in the evenings. Does anyone know of a group like this where I can meet up with some people who know the area for dinner, drinks etc?

i wish i could join you ! Plenty of nice places to go to. I would recommend at least one place if i may...not always visited by tourists. It is central, two minutes walk from the largest square of Prague (Vaclav. namesti). the place is called LUCERNA...large old time dancing rooms downstairs, restaurant etc where many locals go.... if there is a ball, dont miss it, worth seeing that...part of traditions.
Other suggestions : the bar/restaurant Kosicka (little goat) also rather central is also typical and nice at evenings...with both foreigners and locals. Take time to walk by the river in the evening at sunset and wait for the castle to be illuminated, it is so...romantic :=)
There are a few parks close to the center from where you can see the whole town. Many locals go there (provided the weather is nice) for a beer to meet their friends after work, Letna park is one of them. The other one where the view is really nice is the one with a small eiffel tower at the top, you cant miss it...if you go and like stars watching, go to the observatory, itis located next to a rose garden, cheap and very interesting. Communists wanted people to realise there is no God in the sky...so they have plenty of small nice observatories...:=))
It is usually very safe to walk in central Prague, any time, even for a single woman....enjoy it !
