'Real' Camping
Jul 25, 2007 @ 15:14
I'm from Canada and love camping, but I find the campsites here to be a little crap, more just like a holiday resort where you sleep in a tent. I wanna go where you have your own site cut off from everyone else and you can have a campfire and it's just a bit more authentic. Anyone who's ever been camping in Canada or the north eastern part of the US will know what I mean. Does anyone know where I can find a site like this, either in Switzerland or France?

and go hiking and camp in the middle of nowhere, jura is quite nice with that. Just watch out for the natural reservations where only bivouks are authorised... which, in my opinion, is even better.

bivouac is camping without tents or covering, just inside a sleeping bag (waterproof materiel helps here)"A la belle ?toile" being the french way of saying it.
In the Parc Naturelle du Haut Jura you are not allowed to put up a tent as it can be considered as semi-temporory (ie having negative effects on the ground below over a number of days) whilst bivouacing is just one night per location normally (has a smaller impact), and is therefore accepted.
