Renting a car in the US - IDP

Hello.  I am off to the US this week, and just checked the rules for hiring a car there which said that "ALL DRIVERS MUST HAVE A VALID U.S., CANADIAN, OR INTERNATIONAL DRIVERS LICENSE. AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT IS REQUIRED WITH ALL NON-ENGLISH LICENCES."

The Swiss licence does say "Driving Licence."  Is that enough or do I need to get an IDP?

We rented a car in the US this year (the company was Alamo, if I remember right), my boyfriend showed his Portuguese driving license and that was ok.

We are off to the US at the end of this month, I have a Swiss driving license but my girlfriend has an American license. Apparently it is half the price if you have an American license.

How much was the car rental with Alamo if you dont mind me asking?
