I am in zurich for almost a year now and this will be my first street parade too. I am trying to get info thru friends on Glocals and also to see if any of my friends here wish to join for the day.

The street parade is fun but it depends on whether you go for the actual parade or for the after. I've been to the Zurich street parade to film it but that was years ago. I haven't been since. I was thinking of going this weekend but at this point I am no longer as interested. 

I'm having too much fun going to the mountains instead. 

In summary. If it's your first time then go, it's an interesting experience. It's an eccentric type of event and that's what makes it worthwhile. 

Did the street parade about 6 yrs ago Tate... it was a hoot, but not alone... you need to go with a group or meet people there.

Its abt 800'000 techno freaks dancing madly, drinking, popping tabs (i assume) and smoking pot... all following their favorite trucks, music style etc.

The clubs all around Zurich have some quite cool after parties, or chill down zones, and it is a sight to see...if only once.

Clearly more fun if the weather is good, since dancing in drizzle or rain doesnt appeal... to me anyway.  

You have to dress up for it...street parade style... and just let go once.

@Charlie, Thank you for your post and the details on the parade! It sounds somewhat similar to the Lake parade in Geneva.

Does anyone know if the street parade (in the day time 10am to 4pm) would be appropriate/fun for kids? Specifically a 5 year old. Are there any events other than drinking and electro dancing such as ferris wheel ride, balloons, etc?

Any advice much appreciated! :D I am still deciding whether or not to attend with my 5 year old daughter.

Anybody knows affordable and decent places (B&B, hostel, hotel, etc). to stay in Zurich?

I've a good feedback of allegra hotel (I haven't been there, but for some friends). it's not so expensive, has good reputation in hostelworld and it's 15 min. far from Zurich HB by train (and close to the airport)
