Lovely place! We spent most of the time walking along every part of the town on foot and saw everything possible during the 3 days.
Definitely check out the Buda site up on the hill where you have the old town and the castle district. Don't take the funicular but go hike up the hills; the view is well worth the climb.

The Pest side has all the shopping area and a variety of places to eat. My friend and I just ended up eating at the various eateries along the Duna river on the Pest side.

Margit Island doesn't have much to see, but there is a big public pool area if you want to go cooldown.

With hotel we stayed in the Art Otel along the Duna on the Buda side which was very nice. It's a bit out of the mainstream, but it was very quiet and not that bad of a walk at night after dinner in the Pest area.

From the central town of Pest, I suggest walking up along Andassy Ut til you hit the big green park district which also has a very big thermal bath, if you're into that.

I would recommend you take the airport shuttle to&from the city, as I found it's the cheapest alternative. They take you to your hotel and will pick you up on way back.

This map here will give you ideas of the various sites to visit:

Hope you enjoy!!

Despite being half Hungarian, and visiting the place every few years, I actually do not know Budapest as well as I should. It is a fun city and YouMeCo wrote an excellent guide. Certainly agree that a walk up to the castle district and old town is well worth it. Airport minibus shuttle service is also a great tip as the vehicle and driver are usually to an ok standard, plus the price is fixed. The taxis have improved over the years and apparently there are regulations now, but I still here the occasional worrying report.

In terms of hotels, my favourite is the Gellert. It is a classic, from 1916, located in the city centre and right next to the river. It is 4 star and has all the services, but the prices are very reasonable as the place is ageing. The place has real charachter, plus the famous spa is located inside the hotel too. Or, if you are in Budapest for a special occasion, then the Gresham Palace is the place to stay. It has recently been tastefully renovated by the Four Seasons group and the Tower Suite is as stunning as the price.

As for clubs, A38 can be fun on the right night. It is a converted Ukrainian ship on the Danube which is now a trendy night spot and certainly makes for something different. For shopping, it is best to take a look along Vaci Utca. For museums and cultural sights, take a look around Heros Square. Plenty to do for a weekend and have fun. Best wishes, Phil
