Surfing in Agadir Morocco?

Hi,

I would like to plan a trip to surf in Agadir at a surf camp perhaps in March 2010. Morocsurf.com is one place I am looking at. Any suggestions or others who may be intereseted in going?

My plan is to go for one week, doing an easy jet flight and internal flight translfer, then stay at a surf resort.

Would love to hear opinions of surfing there if anyone's been.

Hi Lynn,

I've been there and I didn't enjoy the time...you get pretty often molested by locals (especially at the beach). Beside that Agadir is alright for surfing, thou the city is (in comparisson to other Marrocean cities) kind of boring.

As Easy Jet flies to Marrakesh I can recommend you to stay there for a night or two.

Have fun and cheers,

Franziska

Hi Hoze, and Franziska,

Thank you for your input, Franziska, I have had similar experiences in Egypt, so appreciate what you are saying.

Anyhow...

Here is the reply I got from MorocSurf.com: the costs seem reasonable, esp. since easyjet flies there for under 100 CHF RT.

Please check availability before booking flights as to avoid disappointment.

We are not a travel company or agent. We are a family run business & have been up & running now for 9 seasons. We were the 1st surf camp in the area, the original & still the best !!
You will receive a more personal service & an honest description of where you are staying & with whom.
We do not put you with any 3rd party agents.
We are also a legally authorised registered company.
We are also affiliated to the Moroccan surf & body board federation which only accepts legit companies into the association.
All our rooms are doubles as we do not pack our guests in like sardines. This is also the same with the amount of guests we take to the same surf spot. We respect our local environment & have the best public relations with the local population.

Inclusive of our price is;
* Airport transfers, (at whatever day or time of arrival).

* Clean & comfortable purpose built accommodation with a five star feel & service.

* Double & twin rooms, some with sea views. (solo travelers, if we can give you your own room we will, without a single supplement)

* Huge dining/sitting room with views of the surrounding coastline to enjoy whilst you eat. Sky tv so you will not miss any sport or your favourite soap drama in the evenings. Reading or chillout area. Top terrace with table tennis table, floodlit for night time comps, that is if you have any energy !

* Breakfast & lunch

* Transport to the surf wherever the best waves are breaking for your ability level with the most experienced guides in Morocco (we often drive many extra km's to score our guests uncrowded waves).

* 3 terraces overlooking the points.

* Free tuition with the best fully qualified instructors all day everyday.

* Wi fi for your use for free.

If you make a booking before the end of November then we can offer you as a discount, last seasons prices.
For a 1 week stay, £300 (€330)
Second weeks price, £280 pp ( €310)
Stays under 1 week,daily rate, £45 person. (€50)
Discounts available for extended stays or group bookings.

Optional evening meals available,(please check the guestbook on the website for recommendations).

Board & wetsuit hire is available.
Board,£10 per day & a wettie, £5 per day.
If you hire for the full week of your stay we will give you one free days hire.
(min 1 weeks stay)

For those of you who are not beginner's we always give free advice & pointers in the right direction & can promise you will leave a better surfer !

Excursions can be arranged to anywhere you may care to visit whilst in Morcocco.

For non surfing partners there is golf, sea fishing, quadbiking, camel & horse riding or have a steam at a hammam followed with a massage. As well as trying your bartering skills whilst visiting the local souks & markets. Otherwise just relax & enjoy the great weather the Agadir region receives.

Over the years we have been here in Morocco we have created a database of riads & places to stay & can recommend riads that have been tried & tested.

It is a requirement to have travel & health insurance.

As for cities in Morocco I would go for Essaouria or Sidi Kaouki (not sure about the spelling). Those places are very popular with windsurfers and tend to be more relaxed and tourist trap free than Agadir. I liked it with a lot of open minded people a nice city etc. although if you like really touristy place you may not find what you are looking for there.I only do surfing as a side sport if there`s no wind, prefer to go windsurfing, so I do not know any schools there, but as a place I would definetely prefer it to Agadir.

Prices look pretty reasonable to me. Seems to work out to Euro 50 per day, with breakfast, lunch and transport to surf sites, it's pretty good I would say.

Hi,

I havent been in Agadir, but I'm planning to go surfing for a week in January, my idea is to stay in a surf camp too, basicaly the same plan I was checking what options are available at the time in Europe. I considered Morocco, but the one that looks the best for me is Lanzarote in Canary Island, you get pretty warm weather the whole year, and what I have been told is that the beaches and the enviroment is quite good, and no crowed with tourists. There are a few surf schools/camps and you can stay either in the beach or in a town 10 minutes walking from the beach, the area is called Famara beach.

I will let you know how it goes!

Portugal is also great for surfing, so is Fuerteventura`s North Shore (although I am not sure how suitable this is for beginners) and LA Pared ;) On Tenerife you have Las Americas which has some nice waves on Gran Canaria you can do some decent surfing in the NOrth. Basically it depends on your preferences and what else you like to do.. :)

I`m sure there is surfing all over Portugal. The best place to surf in winter is the south-west coast, somewhere between Sagres and Aljezur. It`s usually okay warm in winter, too. There`re a lot of schools in Lagos and Sagres and people are nice.
