So I am going to be in Geneva for the next month on my winter break. I want to take a few backpacking/hostelling trips in Europe. Any advice on the best places to travel alone and things to do!!

I'll be happy to recommend some places, but pls let me know:
- how far away from Geneva are you willing to travel
- you Ok with flights, or it's only trains
- are you into nature, or architexture, or history, or shopping, or something else...\
give us a bit more details, and we'll give you back some recommendations.

Hey Nir,
Sorry about the vague entry. Well I am looking to travel within the Schengen countries and to place with more museums. I have been to Paris, Rome and Naples. I was thinking of Florence or even Budapest. Any suggestions on that??

Hiya
I have taken the overnight trains to florence for the weekend on my own and it was great, also they go to venice and that is beautiful too.
I also went to cortina d'ampezzo from the venice area, although this was summer and now it will be covered in snow it is a beautiful area - but probably expensive as it is its peak at this point.
Also great places to see are Nice, Monaco, Provence (Avignon) area, Biarritz, Toulouse. I have taken the trains to all these places from geneva, its really efficient and absolutely fine to do on your own. The places are ALL great too!
So many choices, how do you narrow it down eh?!!

From Geneva, you could head to Milan by the express train... a lot of museums, Leonardo da Vinci collections, and art to see in Milan. From Milan, you can reach Florence by train and enjoy Firenzi's excellent museums. Consider stopping in lovely Bologna along the way. Numerous art galleries, fashion stores, and museums are lined up in Bologna's city center.
Another option is to head to Vienna and Budapest. If you take the long train ride from Geneva, you will pass through some of most beautiful Austrian scenery of Innsbruck, Salzburg, etc. In Vienna, there is a lot to do, including browsing through the exceptional museums on Ringstrasse. From Wien, it is easy to reach Budapest and enjoy the culture and museums such as those along the Danube and the Andrassy road. As the evening gets dark and cold, take a soak in Budapest's wonderful geothermal baths.
