Trip to Argentinia

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Argentina in November for 3 weeks. :D

I will be alone, is that ok and safety on off there?

Do you have some advices?

I'm planning to visit Buenos Aires 4 days than 2 days Iguassu, 2 days wine tasting and Mendoza, 3-4 days trekking on the Aconcagua south side 4200m, 2 days in El Calafate and finishing with again 4 days in Buenos Aires.

Is this planning ok? Should I go to Salta instead somewhere else?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Sandra ;)

hello Sandra,

Bueno Aires ok for 2 days if you like big city and tango

I didn't do Iguacu, Mendoza nice for wine tasting, then i went 3 days from Punta del Inca to Confluencia with a side trip to plaza Francia on the Aconcagua.

El Calafate is good to see Moreno glacier in half day trip ! then you have to take the 5hours bus to Fitz Roy (El chalten) sleep there, nice lodge, then there great hiking and the best view ever (but nov ! still snow i guest).

Salta if you like red rock, yes.

otherwise love Patagonia further south, still snow until late dec, maybe lake district great for volcanoes sightseeing ! and araucaria trees.

Then still some spare time, don't know if you are taking plane or bus inside the country !

Safe place ? well if it's the most european country of South America, everybody travel there alone. But still a big country!

have a great trip !

I did the whole South America thing with a gf two years ago and had the greatest time..I preferred Chile however it was more relaxed and the beaches are amazing..I thought Argentina was a little dirty and too many ppl...however the nightlife is insane and I always felt safe...You have to pay for the most disgusting washrooms ever and most dont have toilet paper or even a seat...I would bring a lot of hand sanitizer and baby wipes...I hope you have an amazing time...

We started in Santiago, then we went down to Villarica where we stayed most of the time. The people there are so nice, I could barely believe it. One thing over is that men constantly say things to you in the streets, and woman would come up and want me to meet their sons.  They dont have that much money there, but everyone is quick to give you or help you anyway they can.  We also visited Temuco, and Pucon. Pucon is a high tourist area, they have great hotels and awesome beaches.  From there we went white water rafting and they stop half way during so that you can jump off this waterfall (they nearly had to push me it was a little high for my liking). Also we climibed Volcan Villarica, which is like one of 3 live volcans that you can climb in the world. I think it took about 6 hours to get to the sumit but then you get to slide down on your bum using your ice pick as a steering wheel.  It was so hot when we went, but during the nights it cooled off enough to wear pants which was nice.  The transport system there is safe and really easy to take. We took a 24 hour ride from Villarica to Buenos Aires, in which you see Mendoza and the views are ridiculous for most of the way to Buenos Aires.  Good luck being blonde though, they will die in Chile.  I was signing autographs since they thought I was a movie star...it was hilarious.  Let me know how it goes I'm sure you will love it.  My last comment is that when it rains it poors there and it's so annoying!!

Hi Sandra,

I was backpacking last year with my now ex. We spent 2 1/2 months in Argentina. Have a look at our blog on http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/twoinaballoon/rtw_2006-2007/1167923520/tpod.html and onwards. There is a map utility showing our route, pictures and stories. Go read the posts, we did most of the 'must do tourist places' but also so nice quiet and beautiful hikes. I'll be glad to answer more of your questions.

Have fun!

Patrick

hi,

In terms of safety in BA, I would suggest to stay away from Boca after dark and maybe an hour before that (but that's pretty obvious and well known)

Cheers

The hike was good, with great view of the summit, the camping ground can be really crowded, but the next day we went for the francia base camp, almost alone up there.

No agency, took the local bus up there and a map, don't need a guide ! But if you don't have tent and stuff. the hostels in Mendoza can give you name of agencies, or even their are going there too. (name campo 2) i think, place for climbers.

Otherwise told you go to Fitz Roy, best hike ever.

Or even further north and bolivia for the Salar de Uyuni in 4x4

Hi :)

Thanks for all this tips which I will use as much as I can.

How many days was your trekking on the aconcagua?

Did you went to Salta?

If yes, what can you recommend me between going to Salta and the region 2-3 days or enjoying a 2-3 days trekking on the south face 4200m (francia camp)from the Aconcagua?

Cheers

Did you went to Salta? yes, nice rock but it's better to go to the Salar de Uyuni from Tupiza Bolivia, you can check it out my video over here

Get a view of the monster of south America or go to Salta ? well if you like mountains and hikes then Aconcagua, if you want to see Volcanoes and lakes at 5000m with flamingos then Bolivia.

But i wasn't really impressed by Salta region, i saw red  rocks formation before in the States
